Wildlife expert and photographer who makes frequent appearances in the local, national, and international media promoting animal and conservation causes.
Of the countless images I have captured in my life, none is more iconic than this one. I can't believe it has been 30 years since Hurricane Andrew devastated South Florida. I'll never forget capturing this image of the zoos flamingos huddled in the ladies restroom for protection.
On 3/4/89, I married the love of my life. This week we celebrated our 33rd anniversary in NYC as we did 23 years ago for our 10th. Here are two images of us taken exactly 23 years apart at the same hotel. Though I’m balder and fatter, she only gets more beautiful!
I was so excited to capture this image of an F-18 fighter jet as it approaches the speed of sound and creates a flash of vapor that only lasts a split second!! Thankful to my Nikon for locking on and focusing while shooting 12 fps to make this possible!

Pleasantly surprised when my brother from another mother stopped by to say hi! Shaq has been a great friend to me for over a decade and a wonderful supporter or the zoo. He is truly one of the “nice guys!” And it’s great to stand next to someone taller than me!
We lost this great lioness today. She was an incredible mother. This is one of my favorite images that I have ever taken when she went over to her adopted son after he was threatened by the adult male and she protected him while reassuring him. So special. RIP Queen Kashifa.
As I walked through the zoo for the last time this year, I asked Shango, our silverback gorilla for his thoughts on 2020. No words needed! I wish all of my family and friends a safe, healthy and hopefully happier New Year!
Today, I had to say goodbye to arguably the most iconic, magnificent animal that has ever lived at Zoo Miami. At 56, Dalip was the oldest bull elephant in the country. I've known and admired him my entire 40+ years at the zoo and with miss him profoundly. This really hurts.
35 yrs. ago today, almost to the minute, I had my first date with this amazing woman. I thank God for that crocodile that bit me more than 35 yrs ago and put me in the hospital after emergency surgery where this goddess was part of my therapy team. Now I get therapy for free! 😍
I have had the privilege of knowing and working with "Toshi," the black rhino for over 35 years. He was the most amazing rhino I have ever known. Though he lived to be the 2nd oldest black rhino in the world, his death has devastated me.
Being able to address thousands at the Stephen O’Connell Center as the recipient of the University of Florida’s Distinguished Alumnus Award has been one of the greatest honors of my life!

One of the greatest honors I have had in my career was opening today's Miami Herald and seeing this on the entire front page!! I could never say "thank you" enough to everyone who has been so supportive throughout my career! It's been a great and wild ride!
So excited to officially announce the birth of "Hope," the first koala born at Zoo Miami in over 28 years! I felt very privileged to be there when the joey left the pouch for the first time to capture these special images!
What an emotional day! Beyond proud and happy to be part of the successful and inspiring release of this bald eagle that we have been documenting and caring for since it was rescued over 5 months ago after it fell out of its damaged nest. An incredible team effort!
I feel sad when they cut down a beautiful 85 yr old tree, effectively killing it, to stand it up in Rockefeller Plaza just for people to look at for a short time and then discard it. Once a tree lives past a half century, it should be allowed to live out its natural life.
I was privileged to take
@xtina
and her family around the zoo recently. If I had a Mount Rushmore for female vocalists, she would certainly be on it. Having said that, it was nice to see such a huge star just privately being a loving mom and enjoying her family.
Súper excited to have won first place in the prestigious National Wildlife Photo Contest. A lot of competition with nearly 30,000 entries from around the world! This is my image of a male Argus pheasant in full display!
I’m at a loss for words trying to thank everyone who bid on my image of a tigress and her cub. $7,900 was the winning bid and I am blown away by this profound generosity!! Special thanks to the
@LeBatardShow
and it’s amazing listeners who made this possible!! WOW!!!
So happy to officially announce the birth of a highly endangered black rhino at Zoo Miami! What a privilege to be able to photograph these special moments with such amazing and beautiful animals!

It's official! Miami-Dade County has rescinded the lease with Miami Wilds to build a water park on environmentally sensitive land at Zoo Miami! Thanks to all who fought so hard against all odds to protect our environment! Special thanks to
@MayorDaniella
for following through!
2 iconic images from Hurricane Andrew 29 years ago. 1st, is one I took of flamingoes that we put in the public restroom at the zoo to protect them from the storm. 2nd, is one of me by
@BillFrakes
, holding a newborn duiker that was born during the storm and abandoned.
"Godzilla vs. Kong" - Quite possibly the worst movie ever made! Imagine a bad SNL skit done by 3rd graders. Save yourself two hours of your life that you will never get back! I thought it was an "April Fools" joke!
An AMAZING night at MAS MIAMI! I can never say thank you enough to Dan LeBatard and the entire Container Crew for all they have done to support me and wildlife conservation. Special thanks to the best fans in the world who showed me more love tonight than I could ever dream of!!!
The first chick hatched last night and the second one this morning at around 8:30AM! Big challenges ahead for this eagle family but let's hope and pray for the best. Thank you to Wildlife Rescue of Dade County and the Ron Magill Conservation Endowment for making this possible!
It's hard to describe the feeling one gets when looking through your viewfinder at a majestic tiger as it is grooming itself, seemingly oblivious to everything around it, until he suddenly looks up at you to let you know that he knows you are there!

If you had told me 42 yrs ago when I was a student
@UF
,that I would be standing on this platform addressing thousands as an honored graduation speaker at the iconic O'Center, I would have thought you nuts! I still can't believe it! Dreams do come true! This photo says it all!
Baby giraffe born at Zoo Miami! This male calf, born on Friday, weighed a whopping 181 lbs. and stood almost 6 ft. tall! After a pregnancy of 15 months, mom gives birth standing up and the calf falls 4-6 feet to the floor!! Welcome to the world!
Proud to say that my image of Zoo Miami's Sumatran tiger, "Berani," has been selected as the next cover for the national Association of Zoos and Aquariums magazine, "Connect."
So this just happened!!! Rita laid a 3rd egg!!!! This is the first time this has been documented in this particular eagle as until this year, she has only laid a maximum of 2!! Must be she likes the new digs!!! Super exciting!!
After a four year absence, I am looking forward to having dignity, integrity, human decency, compassion, and a strong respect for science return to the Presidency of the United States! Hopefully, the healing can now begin. God Bless America!
Surprising my beautiful wife by taking her to Vizcaya Palace and Gardens to stand in the exact spot where we stood when we exchanged wedding vows exactly 34 years ago today! Priceless memories!
Flight to Las Vegas - $400; Super Bowl Tickets - $10,000; Seeing your face on a stadium screen in Las Vegas while doing the
@LeBatardShow
as part of Super Bowl Week - PRICELESS! And such a flattering image at that! 😂
I feel that the zebra is under-appreciated when it comes to its shear graphic beauty. This is art by nature at its best!

I hesitated to post this over the last several days out of respect for those dealing with the tragedy of Surfside. This endangered Grevy's zebra was born last week at Zoo Miami. I hope that it can bring a much needed smile to some.

On the plane to begin our adventure in search of jaguars, giant otters, and other amazing wildlife in the Brazilian Pantanal! Traveling in the style my queen deserves for her birthday! Wish us luck!
It's a long read but an important one. I'm tired of watching developer greed devastate priceless natural treasures. I will not simply standby and watch this happen in my own backyard! It may cost me my job but to say nothing is to be complicit.
Ron & Rita's eaglets continue to grow rapidly! Here is a "family portrait" I was able to capture this weekend. Love how Ron stuck his head in front of the camera from his perched branch to make sure he was included. No problems from the cold weather!
Fun sharing the zoo this morning with Heat Head Coach, Eric Spoelstra, and his family. Truly a wonderful, kind and down-to-earth person who is an absolute pleasure to spend time with. Go Heat!
It was with profound joy that I was able to present a check for $10,000 from the Ron Magill Conservation Endowment to Everglades National Park Superintendent, Pedro Ramos, and Director of Education, Yvette Cano Silva, to support their environmental education programs.
So thankful to all of those who have bid so much on my signed photo of this Sumatran tiger cub and her mother! All the money will be going to the Ron Magill Conservation Endowment to help protect animals in the wild! Thanks so much to Dan LeBatard and friends for their support!
Baby, it’s cold outside! As I’m walking outside, I hear branches cracking above me and this guy falls from up above! Rough time for him. Only in Florida… Warning-don’t let this happen to you! I’m a trained professional! 😉😊
I'm terrible with social media and want to apologize to those who have commented on my tweets and never received a response from me! I'm going to try to do better as I learn how to navigate all this stuff!!
Two iconic images from 28 years ago. One, I took of the flamingos that we put into the public restroom to protect them. The other was taken by Bill Frakes of me, surrounded by destruction, holding a baby duiker that was born during the storm and abandoned by its mother.
After many hours over several days, I was finally able to capture an image of mother and daughter Sumatran tiger together in this touching moment! Will be auctioning off a signed print on the Dan LeBatard marathon show tomorrow to benefit my conservation endowment!

‘Encanto’ is dethroned. Another musical is No. 1 — and it’s from Dan Le Batard? Never, in my wildest dreams, would I imagine being a contributor to the
#1
album on I-Tunes! My profound thanks to
@LeBatardShow
and
@MichaelRyanRuiz
for this privilege!
This newborn giant anteater at Zoo Miami was rejected by its mother and found abandoned in the cold. Many thought it would not survive but thanks to the amazing care given by zoo staff, it has turned the corner and is getting stronger every day!

Ron & Rita's eaglets are almost as large as their parents! As the sun sets this afternoon, Ron watches R2 "wingercising" and then looks into the camera as if to say, "Did you see that?!?!!?! I am so proud!!!" Any day now, they will be off! What a journey this has been!
So happy to be able to make a wish come true for 9 yr. old Taleah at the zoo. She and her sister, Carina came from Tennessee with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to meet and feed a sloth. Seeing the smiles on their faces was the highlight of my day. I pray for Taleah’s full recovery.
I’ve always thought that Lynda Carter stunning. However, meeting her in person made me realize that her beauty is much more than skin deep. She is the definition of class and grace who is more beautiful in person than she ever was on screen. Great way to start the New Year!
I'm so sad to report that Zoo Miami's patriarch Sumatran tiger was diagnosed with advanced cancer of the spleen and with no real hope of recovery at his advanced age, he was humanely euthanized yesterday evening. Tremendous loss. 😢
This little girl has stolen my heart! Amelia Cooley is 4 years old and suffering from leukemia. I was privileged to work with
@makeawishsfla
to grant her wish of a day at the zoo. Nothing more beautiful than her smile and her laughter! Beyond precious!
Eagle chick
#3
just hatched!!! It’s going to have to be extra tough to survive with the other two chicks older and much stronger. The odds are stacked against it. Hopefully, hatching on 3 Kings Day is a good sign!! Unbelievable!! Ron & Rita have 3 chicks! OMG!!!
Filming season 3 of “Mundo Salvaje con Ron Magill” in front of Old Faithful in Yellowstone National park with Ranger Gilberto Molina who is half Apache!
Today is the big day!! After 5 months of care and rehabilitation, this eaglet that suffered a broken wing when she fell out of a nest destroyed by a storm, will be returned to the wild! First time in her life she will fly free!! She eats iguanas! Praying for success!
I spent much of the day with this orphaned baby three-toed sloth that is being cared for by the APPC in the Republic of Panama, an organization that I am very proud to support through the "Ron Magill Conservation Endowment" at the Zoo Miami Foundation.
Zoo Miami's Sumatran tiger cub passed her swim test today with flying colors! She did so well with her beginner's test in the exhibit pool that she then jumped right into the moat where keepers had to jump in to get her!!

Loved being in the Brazilian Pantanal to capture this split-second moment in the circle of life. All the biting flies that are flying around this caiman's head were also biting me but it was worth it for this shot! Caiman - 1 / Fish - 0

I received this today! It is one of the greatest honors I could have ever dreamed of! To receive this prestigious award from
@UF
which provided me with the foundation that has enabled me to enjoy an amazing career means more to me than words can say!

I will not stop doing everything I can to ensure that this Miami Wilds boondoggle does NOT get built at Zoo Miami! There is nothing good about this project being at the zoo! Contact your commissioner and let them know!
Me and my horse, "Tyson," during the filming of our upcoming documentary on the Florida Wildlife Corridor. Wonderful experience working with the great team at Blackbeard's Ranch doing an actual cattle drive! Florida ranchers play a critical role in preserving the corridor!
Waited a while for this reclusive clouded leopard to wake up from the upper ledge of its habitat. When she finally did, she rewarded me with a wonderful yawn, rolled over and gave me a powerful gaze. They have the longest canine teeth relative to their size of any cat.

OMG!! “Rita,” the bald eagle just laid an egg! Go to the nest cam created by Wildlife Rescue of Dade County and the Ron Magill Conservation Endowment to see this story unfold live! - hit the “Explore” tab and connect to “Eagle Cam”. Happy Thanksgiving!
15 years ago, a 2 year old girl named Gemily Pomareda was the 15 millionth visitor to what was then Miami Metrozoo. At the time, as pictured in the paper, she was overwhelmed by all the attention. Today she came back a beautiful young lady, a new freshman at FIU. I'm getting old!
THE HATCHING HAS BEGUN!!!! Today, Rita and Ron's first egg began the hatching process by "pipping" the eggshell. This is caused by the chick pushing from inside causing pressure that cracks the eggshell! Hopefully, it will hatch within 24hrs in time for New Year's Day!!!
Getting ready to celebrate the Illuminations Gala to benefit the Chapman Partnership withe the most beautiful woman in the room who I am so lucky to call the love of my life!
I was privileged to be part of the team that tranquilized this magnificent lion that was rescued from
@a
canned hunting situation in South Africa and then relocate and release him into the Kwantu Private Game Reserve to start his own pride. Priceless experience!!

So, I brought Rita to the VIP Party opening of the Museum of Sex last night. Here we are getting ready to go in and Rita is noticing some of the "unique" individuals who were attending! She appears to be a bit concerned!🤣 Needless to say, it was a fun evening!
Elated to have just ordered the stunning 2023 Cadillac Lyriq! This totally electric car is the first EV in the Cadillac line and my first new car in decades. Though it won't be arriving until the middle of next year, I am bursting with excitement!
Introduced these 2 Orangutans for the 1st time yesterday in hopes that they would get along and hopefully breed in the future. 1st date appears to have been a huge success!

Took the fam to Florida City for some legendary “Sir Woody’s Old Fashioned BBQ.” He’s been there for 25 years and is a legend when it comes to ribs and chicken with his secret recipe sauce. Only takes cash and is one of the nicest guys you could hope to meet!
Today, I was able to capture some images of our Sumatran tiger cub as she explored her habitat. She was recently given access to the habitat for the first time and she is slowly but surely expanding her explorations. Hopefully, you will see her during a future visit!
In honor of "World Elephant Day," I hope that this little guy, and others like him, will grow to be a magnificent, intelligent and majestic animal like his parents, and one day be the parent of calves of his own!
Honored to be asked to be the Keynote Speaker at Brevard Zoo's annual "Safari Under the Stars" fundraiser tonight. Even happier to have the most beautiful date at the party! 🙂
