Archaeology of eclipses? On this threshing floor at Pobes in Pais Vasco, English astronomer G B Airy took initial measurements for the 1860 eclipse @ArcDurham @RoyalAstroSoc Gauging the darkness with a candle placed on the wall, he climbed the hill beyond to watch on the day.

Sorry to all those following the @AS_Corpus account 🤪. I went a bit bonkers on the Pershore (Worcs) frag just now 😅... it's rare I engage with figuration these days (shootout to the 🎨 art historians I know and love, even if my PhD is decidedly un-art historical 😉)

Excellent military belt mount from the Binchester excavations 2009-17 @RomanBinchester @aucklandproject @ArcDurham, in the form of a sheathed Roman sword or dagger with a suspension loop on the end. Late 3rd century says Alison Pollard @AshmoleanMuseum
