Support local news. It keeps our communities informed, connected, healthy, nourished and strong. And just like good food, it’s worth making part of your daily routine. 6/6.

But here’s the thing, what happens when fast food takes over, and the mom-and-pops start disappearing? You can see where I'm going with this. 5/6.

Local news? That’s your favorite mom-and-pop restaurant. Where every dish or story, is made with care, using real, local ingredients. The people running it aren’t just serving you; they’re part of your community. And when you finish, you feel like you’ve gotten something real 4/6.

Mainstream news is like your big chain sit-down restaurants. The quality is better than fast food, it’s generally reliable, and sometimes they’ve got world-class chefs (or in this case, journalists) in the kitchen. You know what you’re getting, even if its not homemade. 3/6.

Social media? That’s fast food. It’s quick, cheap, and yeah, it technically counts as news. But it’s often packed with junk, misinformation, half-truths, and things designed to keep you hooked rather than informed. Eat too much of it, and you start to feel awful. 2/6.

Worth remembering that the Getty Villa is a replica of the Villa of the Papyri at Herculaneum which was buried during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. I’m confident they’ve planned for scenarios like this and are well prepared. My heart goes out to everyone here in CA affected.
Today, a brush fire started in Pacific Palisades fueled by extremely high winds. At the Getty Villa, some trees & vegetation on site have burned, but no structures are on fire, and staff and the collection remain safe. The Villa is closed to non-emergency staff and the public.
