eva already exists. That story has been told. Now, is it possible to make a great reboot or sequel? Yes. But its not gonna be the story of evangelion cause that's done. It has to be a new story, otherwise it will be repeating itself and will not have as much impact this time.

I'm gonna elaborate on why I hate this. When people look at a show like eva, popular critically acclaimed. They latch onto the characters, mechs, iconography and all the "stuff" that's recognisably eva and think "that's what makes eva good." But that's completely wrong.

"There may be plans for more in the Evangelion anime franchise" Hideaki Anno said in a recent interview. He also added that it will be possibly with "someone other than [himself]" at the helm, who would receive a high degree of freedom.

what makes eva great is there had been nothing like it before (gundam and ultraman fans stfu for a sec) this amalgamation of talent and passion produced something that could not be produced by anyone else at any other point in human history.

It's not that anno made eva to go out and say something, he just made something because he was driven to express what was in head. He and everyone else who worked on it, made something out of a drive to create, to put something into the world that wouldn't exist without them.

What all these reboots and sequels to any fan favourite franchise fail to understand is that even if you somehow reacquire every single person who worked on it and gave them unlimited time and resources, they would not make eva again. They can't make eva again because

I want new stories, I want stories that people are driven to tell, that they feel like they have to tell whether its for them or the world. I don't think making something *like* a previous story or something in the same world is a recipe for success because you end up retreading

the same ground sooner or later. I think the planet of the apes reboots are a good example of making something totally different from the original stories while sharing a few core concepts. Because its not impossible that a sequel or reboot will be good, but it is unlikely.

And I think the motivation needs to be "I want to create this" if the motivation is, we want to create more of the thing people already like, its most likely not gonna be good. If there's a great story in someone's head that require's eva's world to be told properly I'm for it.

But I'm always very skeptical when these new projects come along that are trying to sell you the same feelings that you felt before. Andor was great star was cause it was very different from everything else. I know the rebuilds have their defenders but I can't help but wish

all that talent, time and energy was spent on making something new. Something I've never seen before, because no matter how good they were, I think I still would have preferred something new and original.
