Minor rant but I hate that so many people want every little detail to be spelled out. I see it many times that an adaptation full of subtext in how the characters move and act is decried as “cutting content” when they don’t have internal monologues that spell out everything.
@WandererJ3
Yes but I get annoyed every time somebody tells me the steins;gate anime is inferior to the VN because we don’t get okabes inner monologues. I think those people are just incapable of understanding subtext and I hope they get well soon
@RoggolIsMe
I still think it’s sad when monologues get cut out through media change though, especially when it’s something like ReZero wherein said monologues are one of its biggest strengths. You can compensate in the visual medium a bit but it isn’t gonna be the same as the source material
@g0DySsEy
If it doesn't hit then the adaptation is lacking but there's no reason to say it's bad because it's not like source material when clearly if it was great then it wouldn't be lacking regardless of any changes from the source.
@RoggolIsMe
people literally just don't understand that different media are different. you can't reach people like that. they have to want to understand first
@RoggolIsMe
I also see this when a story doesn't explain every little detail of the lore or when there isn't some in depth explanation for character powers. Like why do people care? I care about the actual narrative. I wanna feel things, not fill out a wiki page.
@RoggolIsMe
I kinda disagree, I think there's plenty of opprotunites for monologues to be used incredibly well. Durarara did more than enough to prove that to me.
@RoggolIsMe
True Sonny Boy appreciator right here.
Love that Natsume himself said that the series not having any kind of internal monologue was intentional. And it shows.
Feels so different to other shows (for many reasons, really) but for that alone as well
@RoggolIsMe
Unfortunately the appeal of anime to a lot of people is that it is very accessible in how chars act/think, so when a show doesn't have that the chars get called boring or nothing etc. I think an example of what you're saying being accepted properly is Mushoku Tensei though 1/
@RoggolIsMe
It depends, for example I do honestly believe the Fste animes suffer greatly from the fact we don’t get Shirou’s thoughts, due to it leading people to get the wrong idea about him
