Whether I'll ever write again remains uncertain, but meanwhile I'm seeing where this other road takes me. https://t.co/w4uwFGMNwN

Yes, pretty much all nations invoke self-interest in setting both domestic and international policy; after all, altruism and self-abnegation are rare in geopolitics. But over-indexing on this narrative for China, and downplaying its cleantech dominance by pointing to motivation

I wish I wasn't still on ice, but I am. Sovereignty is always worth fighting for. The disgusting admission below never made the waves I thought it should, but I resurface it here in case it helps anyone quickly dunk on "mismanagement" bullshitters. https://t.co/AGEJZmkKqD

So maybe ask less "Why did Chomsky change?" and ask more "What was I willing to overlook, and what for?" I hear they call the whole thing "self-critique."

It's not even a slight exaggeration to assert that Noam Chomsky's never not been a smug, condescending American chauvinist. He relates to the whole history of anti-capitalist revolution approximately in the way Woody Allen relates to women.

Chomsky's been consistent his entire life—all the way back to passionately defending Rostow and Deutch while slamming Lenin, the Black Panthers, and those he derisively dismissed as "Third World intellectuals." "Study" instead those who actively covered up for and defended him.

This is sad. It makes me want to study Chomsky's biography to learn why he gave up at some deeper moral level. Perhaps the system had just devoured him from within. I can't see how such a morally resolute critic of US empire could participate in the Epstein circle. A major part

@moghilemear13 @romanticswamp I think she has a bright future as a writer, but right now she's dealing with a very serious family crisis. Give her a hand if you can!

@moghilemear13 @romanticswamp May (@romanticswamp) is lowkey one of the most amazing people I've met on here. From Bangladesh, she's an excellent critic of South Asian cinema. I tried to get her on RS many times! Those of you who saw "Karnan" and loved it? Well, that was her tip.

There's still nothing anybody can help me with. But since so many of you are so caring, perhaps I could persuade you to help a good friend? @moghilemear13 has made a GFM for the mother of the wonderful @romanticswamp, and we both chipped in already. https://t.co/DweJyaq3Kj

I've made a fundraiser to support my friend May @romanticswamp who's been taking care of her mother in the hospital for the last month. Her mother is still unable to move much by herself and the doctors haven't been able to identify a cause yet.

It's been nearly a year since my life as I knew it began to end. It's curious: I might hit 30k "follows" out of sheer inertia. Wild to think I once considered throwing a party to celebrate it! But life didn't turn out that way. Instead, I find myself saying goodbye to Canada.

I sometimes come back to this lovely review of Black Sails. "I see beyond my own happiness and intimacy, occasional glimpses of the happiness of thousands of others whose names I shall never hear, and I know that there is a great unrecorded history." https://t.co/AM27ujEfyu

"Machado's later poems serve as a virtual anthropology of Spain's common people, depicting their collective psychology, social mores, and historical destiny. He creates this panorama through fundamental myths and recurring, timeless patterns of group behavior." They'd click.

"[Machado] no longer believed in Franco's defeat. He wrote 'This is the end; any day now Barcelona will fall. For the strategists, for the politicians, for the historians, it is all clear: we have lost the war. But in human terms, I am not so sure. Perhaps we have won.'"

This is a little interesting. 「其實地上本沒有路,走的人多了,便成了路。」 ——魯迅,1918年 "Caminante, son tus huellas el camino y nada más; caminante, no hay camino, se hace camino al andar." —Antonio Machado, 1917.

But there's just so much to this newfound well of feeling! It's no surprise that about 50% of art revolves around this kinda thing. Maybe all that art too is a kind of expressionistic shell with its own kinds of kernels waiting to be drawn out.
