The reason the NCAA tournament is so good is because of stories like this year’s K-State team. Jerome Tang waiting 20 years to be a coach. Keyontae Johnson’s amazing comeback. Markquis Nowell being a wizard. You don’t have to like it, but you’ve got to acknowledge it.

Hard not to be happy for K-State. Those fans have been waiting for something like this for awhile and with a coach like Tang and guys like Johnson and Nowell, it’s hard not to be happy for their success. They’re a likable bunch. Also never hurts to see Calipari get bounced.
Tonight is the final time you’re going to watch Ochai Agbaji, David McCormack, Mitch Lightfoot, and Remy Martin play basketball for Kansas. Quite possibly Jalen Wilson and Christian Braun, too.

Coach K made an entire basketball season about himself only to lose to an unranked UNC team in his last game. Oh, and they got hundreds of former players and said the tickets were tens of thousands to attend, and they totally blew a game they had control over.

There's an argument to be made that Jalen Wilson has been the most valuable player for Kansas in this tournament. His rebounding is so consistent and he's turned into such a dependable, steady player on both ends for this team. His career arc has been really awesome.
Silvio De Sousa should be remembered as a damn legend. He was the best big on the floor in an Elite Eight Kansas/Duke game. Then he proceeded to be the single greatest teammate in unimaginably frustrating circumstances. That is one courageous 20 year-old.
When Bill Self took over at Kansas, the Jayhawks were 48 wins behind Kentucky on the all-time wins list. After today, they are 5 wins behind UK.
Kentucky has won 478 games in 18 years (almost 27/year), and Kansas has trimmed 43 games off the deficit.

Tech is damn good, aren’t they? Mark Adams is legit. That team plays hard and is so well coached. Offense, defense, they’re an absolute nuisance and I hope to hell KU is done with them for the year.
The Allen Fieldhouse intro video is about to get a major facelift, methinks. Mario Chalmers’ shot, after 14 years, will no longer get the biggest roar of all the clips. Brian Hanni’s call and David McCormack’s game-winner are about to become permanent staples in that video.
Iowa State doesn’t have to go to Lubbock or Lawrence.

Just the perfect storm. Tough draw, losing their coach, missed free throws, three-point shooting disappears… they got beat. It’s why winning this beast is so tough, and it makes you appreciate the times they’ve reached the top of the mountain.
K-State losing before the conference finals means that the greatest senior class in school history - Wade, Stokes, Brown - went 1-9 against the Jayhawks.
I'm all for friendly booing and letting college kids be college kids (like the F KU chant), but f-you Kevin is a bit much. Seems like an awfully harsh thing to scream at a 21 year-old kid that gave you three years of winning.
College basketball’s last undefeated is dead as Houston goes down at Iowa State in the latest installment of Hilton Magic. It took the Cougars less than a week to find out that this isn’t the American Athletic Conference anymore.
Bill Self says he still has the voicemail then-high school senior Mitch Lightfoot left him in 2015 on his phone. He said that if you cut open Mitch Lightfoot, a Jayhawk would fly out because of how much he loves the University of Kansas.
If I could eliminate just one game off the schedule, it'd be the BYU game. The roster filled with guys that look like you typed "guy who would make threes against Kansas" into an AI-image generator. Coming off a horrible shooting performance. Hold onto your butts.

Kansas won 300 basketball games in a decade. That is an amazing accomplishment. They will be the only power-conference team in the country to accomplish that in the 2010s, and one of only two total teams to do it (Gonzaga). Amazing decade for Bill Self.
I may tweet disagreements about a personnel decision on occasion, but Kansas is so darn fortunate to have Bill Self as its coach. That comeback was as much coaching as execution. He’s simply extraordinary at what he does. What a special win for him - one he’ll always cherish.
New rule: Dedric Lawson scored 700 damn points this year. You are not allowed to say anything bad about him. At all. When he goes pro, it is because it's the right decision. He turned in one of the finest scoring seasons in the history of this program.

Hell of a season by Texas Tech. That was a fantastic game and they did everything they could. With Mark Adams at the controls, I’m not sure how much it matters who’s on the roster - that team is going to be tough for everyone every single night.

These mediocre white guys that shoot the basketball like Steph Curry when they play the Jayhawks in the tournament have haunted me my entire life. I do not understand the science or the alignment in the stars that make this happen every single year. I just want it to stop.
KU may have missed on a handful of frontcourt recruits, but they got Udoka Azubuike and Silvio De Sousa back, and I don't think they anticipated getting either when the 2019 season ended. Azubuike and De Sousa are better than any frontcourt recruits they could have landed.
