Important increase of #azoleresistance in Belgium the last years! With 9.7% especially in combination with a high incidence of mould coinfections (12%) reason to be careful with the clinical approach towards our frail patients. #aspergillosis @lagrou_katrien @johanM94028778

#MucoralesPCR diagnosing mucormycosis and detecting mould coinfections much earlier than conventional methods, AND impacting the outcome with increased survival since introduction of the MucorPCR in France in 2015. No reason (not even financial) to not make the test available!

😷We need new antifungal strategies. 🧪But, recruitment in the (pragmatic) #HOVON502 study looking at #antifungal combination was difficult. 🍄Adding also low IA related mortality superiority trials seem unrealistic… @bjarijn @sammy_hgns @johanM94028778 https://t.co/p0UBFerlfu

😷 Host is key once more in our fight against fungal infections! 🦠 Excessive influenza-induced IFN-γ impaired the Th17 immune response against aspergillosis in IAPA murine model. 💊 Is targeting this pathway the future? @SeldeslachtsL @GreVVel

Together, these results identify exuberant viral induced IFN-γ production as a major driver of immune dysfunction in IAPA, paving the way to explore the use of excessive viral-induced IFN-γ as a...

@CMIJournal #RCT proposal to test if 10-day #antifungal treatment for #candidemia is as effective as the 14-day standard. This could improve outcomes 📈, reduce resistance 🛡️, and lower healthcare costs 💰. Stay tuned! 👉 https://t.co/ETFuZAF1WO

🇩🇰Azole resistant Aspergillus fumigatus was found in 20% of the 366 environmental samples taken in Denmark (4.2% of all 4,538 isolates were azole resistant). ‼️ Dual use of azoles in clinical medicine and for crop protection challenges patient management! #aspergillosis #fungi

Academic publishing: Scientists submit their work (often done in unpaid time) Reviewers review it - for free Then - the journal then charges people to read it or charges the *authors* ENORMOUS open access fees And the few staff they do pay? They pay poorly What a scam!!

U.K.-based staff at Springer Nature, publisher of Nature and hundreds of other scientific journals go on strike over a dispute about pay. The union says that if the action goes ahead, it will be the first strike in Nature’s 155-year history.

😷The group of immunocompromised patients we are currently treating is evolving in its complexity. 🍄This shift results in more difficult presentations of mold infections, posing significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. ⚕️Interesting considerations on bIMI! #IDtwitter

💭CS on ICU are only truly indicated in very specific situations, and very debatable in many others! So not just a rescue for every very sick patient. 💊Risk of infections is related to the (cumulative) dose. Define net immune status of your patient, in its specific environment.
