So, my next big project is a book on the history of the bond market. It will take time to do justice to its fascinating history and awesome power, but below is a taster. And get in touch if you know someone I should speak to, or something I should read!

Skynet is so 2024, OpenAI now wants to crack the recruitment market. Definitely enough to justify a valuation of ca 1,000,000x revenues.

There was another landmark opposite BCEN’s old headquarters but who cares about this “Marcel Proust” fella anyway. Paris needs to get its priorities straight and get a similar plaque outside 79 Haussmann.

The first known Soviet transfer of dollars to a European bank was from BCEN, which boasted the cable address EUROBANK. This was probably the first time the term “euro” was used in financial markets, and eventually all dollar accounts outside the US became known as “eurodollars”.

This is the former headquarters of Banque Commerciale pour L’Europe du Nord. Despite its bland name it was one of the main foreign banks of the Soviet Union, which used it to stash oil export proceeds, among other things.

Some people go to Paris to visit the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower or Jim Morrison’s grave. I visited the birthplace of the eurodollar market. 🤩

A new proposal from @CMSgov under @DrOz wants to add catheters, ostomy & trach supplies to Medicare’s competitive bidding program. This is a bad idea and will worsen outcomes for seniors & Medicare recipients. My latest in @MedPageToday explains why ⬇️
