Readers - I need your help. I’m working with a high school teacher who’s interested in running a book club with her leadership students. Let’s hear your YA recommendations that fit with leadership themes.

It's never too late in the school year to talk about increasing our reading volume & uncovering reader identity. This week I spent time with grade 7 & 8 Ss @cwperryschool talking about their reading experiences. We kicked things off by hearing from @JasonReynolds83

1/2 I challenge my fellow teachers to ask their students the question "Can you name a book?" and keep the camera rolling until they are out of titles. I'm confident that the results will be much better than when the @jimmykimmel team hit the streets.

The First Page Student Writing Challenge is happening this month. Writing contests are a great way to give writers an authentic audience. There’s so many great mentor texts that come to mind - Station Eleven, The Marrow Thieves, Scythe.

Earlier this week I had a the chance to visit an outdoor classroom where I observed Ss reading, writing, noticing & wondering in nature. It was a beautiful day to get outside. These Ss learn outside daily, in all seasons - learning beyond the 4 walls. @rvsed

Middle school moments! I was able to spend the first period with Mr. Perry and his grade 7s. Daily essential literacy practices are routine and well established at @mcmsreads @rvsed

Designing a unit that empowers students to self-select books leads to genuine smiles, like the ones below. I'm inspired by teachers like @sheabrandford who are always learning and striving to design learning experiences for students that ensure engagement & empowerment. @rvsed
Launching 10-1 Diversity Book Clubs through book speed dating today. Extremely inspired by @pennykittle and our @rvsed literacy PD from yesterday. Students are excited about choice in their reading! @RobertsJaner

Allington's Every Child, Every Day from @officialascd presents six high-quality experiences all Ss should have every day to become successful, engaged readers. The budget of time is limited. When planning, consider this essential question: Is this worth the time? #rvsed

Cohort B participants embraced their reader-writer notebooks as we explored ways to increase Ss writing volume. Collaboratively analyzing mentor texts to identify writers moves using vertical non-permanent surfaces was a definite highlight. @pennykittle @pgliljedahl #RVSed

Fortunate to spend my days with the Ss and staff at @SCHSrvs. Today we co-created criteria for independent reading. It's a shift from teacher-generated success criteria & highly effective. When we commit to expert learning, we empower Ss to create their own definition of success.
