Those who still prefer the term "Byzantine" can rejoice: reinforcements have arrived in the form of a new article by the eminent Byzantinist Paul Magdalino entitled "The Foundation of Constantinople and the Beginnings of Byzantine Studies."

9) The best Sengoku period armies were: Takeda and Uesugi. Contrary to the popular opinion - the Oda army was not one of the best. But Oda Nobunaga was definitely the best strategist of the period.

5) However, as Kenshin is rightly considered the best tactician of the Sengoku period, scholars are rather sceptical as he was also a great strategist. He wasn't able to dominate the Kanto region and deal a decisive blow to the Hojo clan.

4) This tactic was so powerful on the battlefield that Takeda Shingen and one of the mightiest Oda clan generals, Akechi Mitsuhide, tried to copy it. The latter tried to use it against Hideysohi in the battle of Yamazaki 1582. More here:

3) Kenshin favored a tactic of concentrating firepower with long-range weapons to confuse enemy troops, then restraining their movements with long-handled spears and sending in warriors specialized in hand-to-hand combat.
