Like there’s a reason the latter scene doesn’t happen in the books. Theoden is like “I think I should take my people to the massive fortress in the mountains to protect them” and everyone else is like “yeah that makes sense”.

Two Towers is the best LOTR movie because it has my favorite scene in the whole series (Theoden getting freed from Saruman) followed immediately by my least favorite scene (Aragorn getting mad at Theoden for wanting to retreat to Helms Deep, objectively a great military strategy).
