Eck on Jaxton being a leader: ‘He’s very consistent. The guys respected how engaged and involved he was even after hip surgery. His work ethic and how he works on daily basis. He plays well, does his job. Very consistent.’

Eck in this bye week: ‘We’re going to practice twice this time instead of three times. We’re going to scrimmage some of the young guys. Have to develop home grown guys. Over time we’ve come to pretty good plan on how to handle bye weeks.’

Eck on secondary and getting Brawley back: ‘That helps us. Getting a guy who’s a seasoned starter back. Three of the guys who started the Michigan game didn’t play. We have to keep getting guys better and keep cleaning up putting guys in the best situation.’

Eck: ‘UNLV did some things that caught us off guard. We had to do a good job breaking some tendencies.’

Eck on possibly going to NM Bowl: ‘For where we are right now, it would be great for our program, very excited.‘

Eck on confidence of his team from the start of season that they could make a bowl game: ‘We were confident. It’s been a process. Confidence is part of our formula. If you have a plan and execute it, you can have success.’

Eck on best part of getting bowl eligible: ‘Seeing the happiness of our players. They’re having a great experience. It’s my job to make sure they have a great experience.’

Eck on success and effect in recruiting: ‘We just got a commitment from a player who had committed to a team that is leaving our conference.’

Eck: ‘Gave up too many 20-yard plays to my liking.’

Eck on MW title game possibilities: ‘We’re not talking about that. We don’t control our own destiny. This week is big week to improve as a team. This is the first bowl game I’ve been to since 2002. Getting to seven wins ensures you’ll have a winning record. Stay in the moment.’

Eck: ‘I think it’s important we get 25-30,000 for the next one. Need investment from the fans. Texas Tech, their fan base and boosters have shown up for them. The weather here, high 50s in November, should be great.’

Eck: ‘Really important, it’s our first full class. Last year we had some hits. McBean, Smith, Tasi, Torres. This year is our first full class recruiting to New Mexico as far as freshmen.’

Eck: ‘Real big week. Every coach is out. Big week in recruiting.’

Eck presser begins: ‘Good win at UNLV. Team showed great resolve responding to losing 21-pt lead.’

Olen on quality of DII teams when asked about Boise vs Hawaii Pacific: ‘Anything can happen in college bkb. I’m a little biased with my experience. There’s a lack of appreciation for how good those teams are.’

Olen on kids getting in free Saturday: ‘That’s awesome. I love that we’re doing promotions to get more kids in the building. This is a generational fan base. This is a way to keep that going because I think it’s really, really special.’

Olen: ‘I don’t know where I land on the hot hand theory. We let those things play out sometimes, and other times we’ll stick to the script (on rotations).’

Olen: ‘What we try to do is think about rotations and minutes on a holistic scale and create a plan. We have a map how we want to do the rotations. We spend a lot of time with strength and conditioning and evaluate their ability to handle workload…. We’ll change it on fly….’

Olen on guards being mismatched: ‘We’ve talked about it. Trying to evaluate players in different situations. There are some relatively easy solutions that we didn’t go to, it’s relative to opponents. There are some matchups where we want to find some solutions.‘
