The Ruddy Shelduck is still present at Sevenoaks Wildfowl Reserve today. A bit of a walk as the car park and reserve centre is still closed. A nice detour though after my Heathrow Airport journey!

A final day out in Alaska and we took a Sea Plane out to Redoubt Bay to look for GRIZZLY BEARS and Salmon! It was something I’ve always wanted to do and it was incredible! We saw a mother and 2 cubs so close! Plus below the plane, 25 Beluga Whales!! With ⁦@a1virginia

This is KITTLITZ’S MURRELET! one of my main targets on our boat trip out of Seward Alaska. It likes to feed near the glacial melt waters close to the ice. We had some great views along with Rhinoceros Auklets and Ancient Murrelets! with ⁦@a1virginia

The most common Skua here on the Alaskan Tundra is LONG-TAILED SKUA (Jaegar in local language!) and there seem to be plenty of Tundra Voles to keep them fed 😳 with ⁦@a1virginia

It took a few days of searching but we eventually found a very cool SPRUCE GROUSE - my last Grouse species for N America! It’s more of a bird you stumble across than find easily! With ⁦@a1virginia

We flew back to Anchorage today after 4 days on the Pribilof Island of St Paul. The highlight for our group was finding the 4th record of LESSER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE for the USA! A major twitch for the dozen or so birders on the island! Also Hawfinches and a Grey-cheeked Thrush!

The Pribilof Islands are quite amazing for the huge numbers of breeding Auklets, Puffins, Guillemots and Kittiwakes. There are also modest numbers of Ancient Murrelets. here is one about to land! With ⁦@a1virginia

This was one of my most wanted birds of our Alaskan Trip- the rare RED-LEGGED KITTIWAKE! Slightly small and with greyer upper parts than Black-legged and more rounded head. Great to see breeding on cliffs too. With ⁦@a1virginia
