I love video games

Fab to see the #EAOriginals label going strong. Independent studios and new IP is the lifeblood of the games industry and is more important than it’s ever been.

When a piece of entertainment software can have this sort of profoundly positive impact on someone, something so powerful it permanently shifts your perspective on life for the better, I know we’re onto something. I love video games.

Intrigued, I asked why. “Because it will change your life”, he said. Surprised, I asked how. “It will make you stop and think about everything, about duty, about being responsible, about how to do the right thing when things go wrong sometimes, and about how to be a better man”.

My middle son, 16 quiet and stoic, said something to me before I started to play. He said “you need to play this game”, with an unfamiliar look in his eyes.

Late to party a few weeks ago I finally dragged the controller from middle son’s hands and got to play. And it is a remarkable experience that is so comfortable and confident in its craft and so huge credit to @SonySantaMonica for this. But there’s more here.

Recently ran a 5e D&D session with same players I ran a campaign for many many moons ago, in a custom-built folly to the Yawning Portal. The spontaneous magic of IRL tabletop is still very real for me (copious mead also helps).
