WOW. This is quite something. I had no idea it was this complex a rescue. How did they even find them? Check out the graphic to see what’s involved.

JOB UPDATE:
I am super excited to announce I will be officially joining the
@FreeAgentLibre
program!
#GCAgents
!
But first, I will be leaving
@ESDC_GC
and heading back to
@TBS_Canada
. I can't wait to share my first assignment with you all. And, yes, it's in
#GCDigital
.
Day 16: (Last COVID update)
Official isolation completed, however some coughing symptoms remain. Asthma ugh :(.
The good news, I am on the mend with energy levels recovering.
Thanks for the ❤️. The intent was to share my double-vaccinated experience.
See you in 2022!
#PSACStrike2023
, let's get remote work normalized where appropriate and continue to build a robust, modern GC that hires from all regions of the country.
What better way to give opportunities to the citizens in all areas of the country?
Day ?: COVID
I am just waiting to get discharged from Civic.
✔️ Bad wheezing cough, but better
✔️ Oxygen 92-94
✔️ Hope
❌ Fever or chills
❌ Worsening symptoms
❌ Asthma attacks
❌ Smell gone
❌ Taste gone
Out of this anytime soon? Not likely. There will be a lot of sleeping.
We will not solve remote working by continually hosting meetings back to back. Why is this still a thing?
Make:
Daily 15-min max touchpoints.
Change:
30-min meetings to 25 mins.
60-min meetings to 50 mins.
Try start scheduling meetings this way, and others may follow!
Day 7: COVID
Precautionary trip to the ER because of low oxygen. It seems to fluctuate—asthma complications. Also, small 38 fever.
My wife is at home with super mild symptoms right now.
It seems like AZ/Pfizer is working hard for me and Grace’s Pfizers.
Stay safe.
Day 5 living with COVID.
No fun. You don't want it - happy to be fully vaxxed, though.
Chills 100%
Fever 38
A truck keeps running over my head
Light & sound sensitivity 100%
Tase & Smell 0%
Energy level 0%
Friends willing to drive by and drop off groceries 100%.
It’s a real hard sell, folks.
Possible:
45-min plus in the morning commute.
If late to the office, late coming home.
Another 45-min plus commute.
Tell me why this is better for the world's environment, office culture, and our mental health? 🤔
Big Announcement:
Happy to announce early this week I have joined the

Fun facts:
My father, Don Butler, was a Trade Commissioner at the Department of Foreign Affairs Canada (DFAIT) for his entire

I haven't chosen to eat inside, but I feel that restaurants should be allowed to be open. Let the citizen decide. :). I am no Dr. though, but I would hope that restaurants could be saved this winter.
Not exactly bring your dad to

In the event of the unlikely cancellation of any future upcoming music festivals, please find this DIY setup.
Probably shouldn’t have left the cat on the DJ booth though.
I know we keep calling people outside of the NHCAP "regional employees."
How about we just start calling them "employees" and starting thinking about truly decentralizing work to get a truly diverse workforce from across Canada. Geographic perspectives are key.
BREAKING:
Introducing

Workplace 4.0.
These new innovative separation devices will help stop the spread of airborne pathogens by reducing close contact with your colleagues. They are also fantastic noise suppressors, perfect for MSTeams calls.
Sincerely, 1964.
😁😁😁
Getting ready for an interview. I don't think I have worn office clothes since heading to the office back in February 2020. See you on the other side, folks!

Resting, relaxing, impatiently waiting, but it looks like things are very slowly getting better.
Dr. friends Dave and Katherine sent us this from
@GoodGrazes
. Even with my smell missing, I could taste some of it.
We have great friends and are thankful for it!
THANK YOU. 🚨🥳🎉
Thank you for being such great colleagues and helping me grow with you in the National Public Service. I look forward to collaborating more, connecting, and helping support each other in the year to come.
I threw together a little video to close out

I just got the first dose of the Zha! It feels good 👍. Now off to Burger King to get some fast food which will probably ultimately kill me.
Today is a good day.

Super pumped!
Today is my last day at work for the next four weeks. I am taking what's left of my parental leave. I will be back in mid-May!
I will join this one for more walks and spend time with family.
Has anyone noticed when collaborating online lately that you've forgotten that your new virtual colleagues may not be from the same city or even the same department?
The public service amazes me.

I love that I have three co-workers that work outside of Canada. One in France, Sweden and the UK. Let's not forget to mention folks from across the country. So here's the way to do Government in 2022.
Proud of our distributed branch and teams.
The
#RTO
narrative is so distracting.
@catherinekitts
travelled 2 hours from Orléans to downtown & 2 hours back in the evening.
The average commute time in a functioning city is 30 minutes, according to Google.
Driving is the ONLY option at $20/day. Not equitable at all.
A very COVID New Years' Eve 2022 with
@gracehrpark
.
This December has been a rollercoaster. The good news is 2022 starts with a clean bill of health for Grace, and hopefully, I will be entirely out of the woods soon!
I still have a symptom, so we stayed home.
See you in 2022.
In unprecedented times of physical distancing, & all of the challenges that it brings, we should remember to keep our social connections strong & continue to mark important milestones.
So I asked a few friends to jump on their phone & wish our colleagues a Happy Fiscal New Year!
Today is my last day working in the
#GCDigital
world for
@DigiEnablement
at
@TBS_Canada
. What a ride meeting folks across the
#GC
who are working on incredible files. The relationships & networks created are a perfect segue into my next adventure. Details Monday. Thanks, fam!
I admit I am being extra, but no boardroom in the world can beat the sound of the wind, the birds, and the folks using their chainsaw across the lake to cut wood.
I am on compressed day working on some small things. See you Monday!
What are a few things public servants need to do better in 2023 to help build trust with citizens?
I am a public servant by day, I am also a citizen, so I’ll go first:
1) Authentic external engagement
2) Hire folks from across Canada
3) Build trust by working in the open
A modernized workforce DOES NOT NEED TO commute two hours a day.
Wouldn't a better decision be to revitalize the downtown with affordable housing and have a base crowd living there 24-hours a day vs. visiting for 8?
I’d live downtown if there were an affordable reason to.
Jim Watson appealed directly to Treasury Board President Mona Fortier to remind her that Ottawa has one of the highest COVID-19 vaccination rates of any big city in the country, saying it's safe for workers to return.

EXCITING NEWS!
Happy to announce that I will be contributing to our Digital Change team inside

to help produce the Digital Nations (DN) all virtual Ministerial Summit in November.
Canada is the 2020 DN Chair.

More about the DN:
does anybody notice that they need more breaks from screens working from home? i just realized the watercooler discussions, boardroom meetings, coffee breaks were all away from screen experiences.

COVID-19 has accelerated change at an incredible speed this year, but let this show you how far we have come, where we have been, and what's to come!
THOUGHT: As patrons decline going to small businesses like your favourite restaurant or store, wouldn't it be neat if you could ask them to buy a gift certificate to use a few weeks from now when things settle down?
Checking my favourite restaurant Chahaya Malaysia.
Sending positive thoughts to everyone this morning.
We’re doing well folks. We will get through this together.

2 months until 2020 and we still only have 2gig limit on our emails :)
Should I print the documents sent to me from stakeholders out?
Kidding, but, I think we could do a little bit better than 2gigs.

Well, this is exciting!
We applied for Baby C’s passport on August 5th, and we picked it up today from the post office.
Now hopefully, no issues catching the

We are first-time travellers with a 13-week-old. Any tips?

Such great news today. I was a mentor for this past

Mentorship program. At 11:45 am today, my mentee sent me an email saying they won a competition I encouraged them to apply for.
This is no better feeling than helping someone's career grow!

Yesterday I grabbed a friend and headed out for a bike ride. Check out the route we took. We were on bike paths 99 percent of the time—what a great way to end the day.
Summer is coming :).
PowerPoint Hack:
I placed PowerPoint underneath my MSTeams call. I selected translate language from French to English.
Voila, the French portions are translated for me via Microsoft AI translation.

@CDS_GC
, you nailed it.
All my friends, including my family, were notified when I pressed “share.”
Fun fact, when I called around, I learned how many of my friends hadn’t installed it. Sad to say, the same line about the Gov tracking them. We have to fix this lack of trust.
How do you produce and record a virtual record a conference for National Accessibility Week? Lots of time, patience, and great presenters. We used Zoom to record an interview with Rosalie McGrath today.
