When someone calls me to process their thoughts, my favorite possible ending to a conversation is when they get to say “you helped me find the questions I didn’t even know I needed to ask.”

My neighbor Mark is this guy on our road. If it’s the big stuff or a fallen tree I may get a phone call. Another guy mows a couple spots by our bridge so kids can fish easier, and the abandoned farmstead down the way doesn’t attract mischief. Know the neighborhood dynamics and

There will always be people willing to take risks and break rules when it means putting food on the table at home. The tighter they get squeezed, the more risk they are willing to take. Two thoughts: -if you make enough rules, everyone is a criminal -Americans will almost

No independent shop can afford all of those, yet you often need to remain flexible to make a living. The result is that the really sharp mechanics are buying the software, cracking it, and selling cloned copies to all their peers at a steep discount. Every program I looked at

This is what happens when you make life prohibitively expensive for the folks that understand how the complex systems in our world work. This is a laptop that has dealership level software on it for diagnostics and repair manuals. One of those icons costs thousands per year to

Nothing like getting thrown from a horse to remind you how much different it is to build in the real world, outside a lab, outside the digital tbh I love it. Everything feels so much more real

@simonsarris It is amazing to me how much better I communicate when I remind myself to check for definition alignment with the other party.

Sometimes we do work here that sucks, but it must not be that bad because people still want to keep working here. Guys staying employed longer than they should because of our culture is a great feeling.

We had some acquaintances start unexpectedly attending our church. It’s been a couple months and they love it. They want to be more engaged, so we invited them for dinner with their kids tonight and it went really well. Post your wins. 💪🏼

There is meaningful work to do in the middle. The world is changing rapidly. The fourth turning vibes are real. Despite that, our vocational calling is often towards maintenance of what feels like the status quo. Keeping the wheels on our institutions, passing on social

@disclosetv Optimism isn’t blind hope. It’s a bet on agency. Pessimism says, “The system is broken, so do nothing.” Optimism says, “The system is broken, so build a new one.” Every breakthrough in history came from people who were “wrong” until reality caught up. Progress doesn’t belong

Whenever I have something like this start to break containment, I cringe 😬 wondering what the response will be. Then I remind myself that I wrote articles with larger readership when I was 17 and made it out unscathed, so wth it’ll be fine.

Every person should pick up a fiddle for a couple hours. It makes the experience of listening to this exponentially more immersive. My fingers cramp up just watching this. Mad pinky stamina.
