The best argument against the electoral college is that none of the contentious issues that we vote for representatives on can have their position premised on geography.

I was given the impression by several extremely annoying Democrats that a major reason why we needed to vote for you was to keep Republicans out of power because they were, quote, "going to destroy Democracy.".
Today, I am announcing that as president, I will create a bipartisan council of advisors to give feedback on policy and inform my administration. Our democracy needs a healthy two-party system.

The Last Jedi reaction was when I decided that the only just world is one which never satisfies a fucking Star Wars fan.

If the "civics lesson" is what blocks them from doing the right thing, I expect them to attack and dismantle the "civics lesson.".

Once again, if your counter argument to "why didn't Dem leadership do anything" is "something something civics" that is. not a good advertisement for the benefits of having them in power.

It isn't two different points on a quality spectrum, its an entirely different thing altogether.

Okay so I've seen some discourse because of the "Jason" post about Actual Plays. So, the thing about the "Matt Mercer Effect" is *not* that you can't be "as good at D&D" as professional actors. Its that what they are doing isn't even really anything like playing D&D.

I don't understand why Dems think "Actually, if you UNDERSTOOD CIVICS, you would GET how the PEOPLE we are asking you to VOTE FOR are actually POWERLESS to DO THINGS once elected" is like, a mobilizing message.

You know prior to this thing with Ohio I thought what a lot of rwingers needed to do was shut the fuck up and now I'm kinda feeling like maybe we will never see peace if they get to keep living here.

I absolutely resent the notion that the role of GM/MC/DM is one of specific authority or one of creative output, even when I play games where that's naturally true.

Calling CR (or D20) a roleplaying game is like calling The Guild an MMO.

I'm not saying that you can't play good games that use all this as the way they have chosen to play, but the idea that this is the *default*, that this is somehow endemic to play, is because, again, D&D.

You have a whole world to build and maintain? Why? Why is that a default expectation? Why is it the expectation that no one else you're playing the game with could do that? Or change it? Or ignore it? Why are their *separate rules* for the "world" to begin with?.

this expectation is a perfect example of what we are talking about when we say that "D&D culture defines the hobby in ways that seem neutral but are not".
@SolsRoles Gonna have to disagree with this one. I have a whole world to build and maintain. They only have one character. Asking them to do the same amount of work I do would be unreasonable, and I suspect it would lead to a worse gaming experience for everyone.

this is exacerbated by the fact that this *is* something that happens, and is usually spotted and critiqued by the left as pinkwashing etc. the problem is that the right-wing version is utterly bad faith and exists only as a cover for bigotry.

example: they "don't care" that a character is gay, theoretically, but are enraged that the character might be gay "intentionally" or "ideologically" or with "political purpose" or "as the result of interference with the design".
