Let's not blame the folks who are still using AI detection in higher ed; it's painful to acknowledge that there just isn't a fix-it approach that works. It's time to invest in professional development. Faculty need support to define how they will combine various other approaches
AI detection in school is a losing game. AI detectors have high flaw positives & teacher intuition seems to work even worse: โHere we show in two experimental studies that novice and experienced teachers could not identify texts generated by ChatGPT among student-written texts.โ

I told a shop-worker today that I was an 'ex-teacher'. She asked if I was retired. ๐ฅ I am 39. Sigh. I guess that's what a decade in the classroom does to you. ๐ง๐ง๐ง๐ง๐ง๐ง๐ง On the plus side, I met a student I had taught who remembered me fondly. She seemed to be doing well.
