Dr. Adnan talked about his time as OPEC Acting Secretary General, comparing past oil market dynamics with today’s surplus and geopolitical risks. The talk also examined the rise of civil nuclear energy in the UAE, and prospects for wider regional adoption.

Highlights from the discussion session with Dr. Adnan Shihab-Eldin. Dr. Adnan Shihab-Eldin talked about the GCC’s strategic energy transition, exploring how Gulf states are addressing climate change and diversifying into renewables, EVs, and hydrogen.

Session concluded with a ceremonial recognition of our guest, presented jointly by H.E. Shaikha Tamador Al-Thani, Consul General of @QatarCons_HOU on behalf of the Arab consulates in the city- and the @biswal_lisa , chair of @RiceCHBE representing the university administration.

Event was attended by faculty members and students from Rice University, as well as representatives from the Qatari, Kuwaiti, and Iraqi consulates, in addition to delegates from oil companies based in Houston, giving the discussion a rich academic and diplomatic character.
