Today is Election Day! If you haven’t voted already, be sure to get out to the polls. Below is a full list of polling locations in District 6, where voting will take place until 7PM this evening. Happy Election Day! (1/2)

People experiencing mental health crises deserve support to reach stabilization. A jail is not meant to do that work. Let’s create a real pathway to stability for our folks. Let’s strengthen our public safety holistically. It’s time for a true mental health diversion center.

It’s cost effective, well researched and implemented, and significantly strengthens public safety. Our neighbors in Harris County have done the work; Nashville has done work; Miami-Dade County has done the work. Each have seen cost savings and reductions in ecidivism.

This work will take time but it has to start. By collaborating with the county, we can chart a path to where people experiencing a mental health crisis have a place to be treated with dignity and reach stability— outside of a jail cell.

Our county jail cannot be our community’s largest mental health provider. As chair of the Community Health Committee at Council, we will be working to deliver a mental health diversion center that provides treatment and works to end revolving jail doors.

This election, just like the last, came down to the wire. I want to thank my opponent, Kelly, for running a strong campaign, and for sharing a laugh while we stood in the sun at the polls each day. I know her family is extremely proud of her— and they should be.

I can’t thank my family, my friends, my partner, and my team enough for all the work they put into this campaign. It took all of us to get here and I am forever grateful for their support, and for the support of voters across District 6 who trusted us with their votes.

We launched this campaign last summer, and worked extremely hard to get to this point today. It has been an honor to knock doors of the neighborhood I grew up in, my cousins grew up in, and my childhood friends grew up in;
