2/2 You have Core Design admitting that Chuck Rock was inspired by Bonk (and Core's other game Torvak is most certainly influenced by Legendary Axe), and you have Battle Isle coming from Military Madness too.

1/2 Its Interesting how the early TurboGrafx Hu-Card library seems somewhat influential on Amiga gaming even though it had so little exposure in Europe. Not only do you get the ports of Bonk and Bomberman (1990). .

Always felt that Rare's Donkey Kong Family were inspired by Dizzy's "Yolkfolk", laying them out like this makes me even more convinced ๐Ÿ™‚. Its not just the superficial similarities either, the way the player interacts with some of these characters is also kinda' reminiscent too -

Finally got my replacement graphics card today. Yup, it took CEX over three weeks to transfer it from one store to another, when they said it would take less than one โ˜น๏ธ.

My GPU just broke, serves me right for using it on such hot days ๐Ÿ˜† should still be on warranty.

Just found the other half, it was from the Xmas 1990 issue. Interestingly EGM rates the Game Boy as the worst of the four handhelds available at that time. Nowadays people often talk like there was never even a question that the Game Boy was the better product.

2/2 - . This resulted in a lot of longplays where the player clearly doesn't understand the gameplay mechanics and just gets through by using save states and nothing else. Often this gives a poor representation of the game and its features. (Minor quibble).

1/2 - I feel its kinda unfortunate that instead of the best longplays rising to the top on Youtube we ended up having a few channels get a monopoly of the top spots by following a production-line strategy, seemingly just grabbing anyone available to make the video. .

Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade: The Action Game must have some of the most suspicious set of reviews I've seen. Half the British mags gave all versions of the (pretty awful) game over 80% while the other half gave it ~50%. Its scores like this that really make me wonder ๐Ÿคจ.

Its funny, 20 years ago I really was really worried that all the seafront arcades would completely disappear, flash-forward though and they've outlasted half the major high-street chains ๐Ÿคฏ.

Mystic Quest is our name for the 1st Secret of Mana game here in Europe, If I recall correctly it was called "Final Fantasy Adventure" in the US.

Got some games for my birthday (I owned Gremlins 2 when I was a kid, some French person stole it when I was on a trip to Euro Disney though unfortunately!)

Just starting throwing together a 2D platformer family tree, taking a step back and looking at what I've created, I feel like this guy right now ๐Ÿ˜†

This is basically how I kind of see the lineage of 3D platformers at the moment, though its far from set in stone so I'd take it with a grain of salt ๐Ÿ˜„ -

15/15 . many journalists at the time themselves pointed this out, and as a UK company Rare would've most certainly been familiar with Head Over Heels, it was massive here in the 80s, so at the very least that particular isometric-adventure influence is pretty much unarguable.

14/15 Lastly, I don't think its really controversial to point out that the Banjo games were most certainly influenced by Head Over Heels, the way the two characters are merged into 1, and in the 2nd game can separate to solve puzzles is too similar to Head Over Heels to dismiss. .
