Resilio Connect runs on both physical systems and virtual machines. It’s cross-platform, running on popular operating systems such as Windows, Linux, macOS, and NAS systems.

Maffeis Engineering selected Resilio Connect for a software-only, centrally managed, agent-based solution. Resilio agents are managed centrally using the Resilio Connect management console.

“These tools caused many problems. Before Resilio, life in IT was not so good for me, personally,” says Guidolin. “Our IT team is the first line of defense. When an error happens, many people, including our CEO, are not happy. We faced a very difficult time before Resilio.”

Before adopting Resilio, the IT team tried Dropbox, Layer2, Filecatalyst, and SharePoint OneDrive, among other tools. Each failed for a variety of reasons. There were issues with slow and incomplete synchronization, file versioning, and file corruption.

“We also use CSI Sap2000 for structural engineering and design. These programs generate a large number of calculation result files. Each file is about 2 GB. Each project contains about 200 to 2,000 files—or more than 400 GBs. Some of our projects reach 2 TBs of total data.”

“Every design detail matters,” says Emanuele Guidolin, Maffeis’ IT Manager. “Our primary servers in Italy store many files of many different file types. We use various Autodesk products: AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk Inventor, and NavisWorks Freedom.”

TUTORIAL TUESDAY Understanding Archive Folder 📁 Folders selected for synchronization have a hidden .sync/Archive directory inside. This directory stores old versions of updated or deleted files: if an Agent updates a file, other Agents move their local copies to the Archive.

“The only other option would have been to duplicate the entire 3D infrastructure (all of the hardware and software). We did not want to do that for 90 users when you can use Resilio Connect and bring the users to the 3D apps.”

“Instead of moving the entire 3D platform out to the edge for 90 users, we moved the users to the platform. Users are efficiently re-directed back to the data center housing the 3D applications.”

Each type is configured separately. To add cloud storage, the Management Console license must include a "Cloud" feature in at least one package. Once you add your new storage you can use it in as many jobs as you like.
