With all the rancor & anger surrounding speech right now perhaps the writing of Justice Gorsuch in the  opinion of 303Creative v. Elenis offers guidance: “…abiding the Constitution’s commitment to freedom of speech means all of us will encounter ideas we consider (1/3) 🧵

The Europeans are self righteously criticizing the Israeli attack in Quatar. The Trump administration is balanced. Wherever anyone can kill Hamas leaders we should be thankful.

It cost Benjamin Harrison his presidency & may do the same now. As producers pass the increased costs on to US distributors & consumers, the tariffs represent a massive extraction of resources from the private sector & American consumers to the exclusive benefit of the US govt.

Firing the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics won’t stop the economic slowdown tariffs are causing. The admin seeks scapegoats, like interest rates, but they are distractions. Tariffs have always created inflation and financial dislocations. (1/2) 🧵

This is another of the many reasons to shine the light on the Department of Education. I doubt China has one of these institutes. (2/2)

DOGE continues to find obscure, unneeded and wasteful government programs. In addition to the highly publicized ones such as USAID and public finance of media (which is an oxymoron in a free society), they have found something called The Institute for Education Sciences. (1/2) 🧵

Over 1/3 of the workers in farming, construction, landscaping, meat processing, and other industries are illegal entrants with clean records, and due to generations of nominal birth rates, there are no “baby boomers” to replace them this time. (2/2)

The push to deport illegal entrants who have no criminal record & are filling jobs we desperately need done is a significant challenge to our economic prosperity. The ideologues in government are driving slower growth, higher costs, & economic stagnation. (1/2) 🧵

Bill Clinton was the last democrat to get it, passing the 1994 Crime Bill. They also don’t get that this issue cuts across all socio-economic and racial categories. The urban elites who push these policies don’t live where most of the crime takes place. (2/2)

The democrats are doing it again-“soft on crime” with cashless bail, reduced sentencing, cutting police, & creating “sanctuary cities” despite the fact that an overwhelming majority of Americans want security in our cities. (1/2) 🧵

The President’s assertion that “the states are agents of the federal govt” in election matters, duly bound to execute what POTUS says, is a pernicious idea that if pursued would destroy the system our founders gave us in the Constitution. It should be criticized & soundly opposed

housing starts are down as higher interest rates and tariff-driven materials prices take root and personal consumption spending is declining as consumers fear for the economy has spread. None of this needs to happen. (2/2)

Trump’s tariffs are beginning to impact the US economy and reflect the economic disaster that tariffs always are. Annual GDP growth is now forecasted at 1%, less than half what was forecast just a few months ago, (1/2) 🧵

Proposed tariffs-even at lower rates than initially sought-are destructive to global trade, will raise US prices, drive friends to find new trading partners to the detriment of our market influence & give China another opportunity to strengthen global relationships at our expense

President Trump is pushing use of cane sugar instead of corn syrup in soft drinks. Why? A gift to the Florida sugar industry - an oligarchy of billionaires who receive twice the world price because the US taxpayer subsidies them.

Second, we get a $3.4 trillion increase in the national deficit via a tax bill that has some terrible, budget busting provisions like no  tax on tips or overtime income. (2/2) 🧵

This is the week of really bad ideas. First, we get “Alligator Alcatraz”, a migrant detention facility the DeSantis administration is constructing right next to Everglades National Park, a disastrous action for our SWFL Everglades and surrounding environment. (1/2) 🧵

Rep Mace, for example, was quoted as opposing abusive government spending but still wants the spending that goes to her district. Sadly, she is not alone. (3/3)
