These allegations are serious and he should resign to focus on his legal charges and allow for new representation on Cape Cod.

With the news of Rep. Flanagan’s arrest today for defrauding a local group to support his political campaign, he can no longer effectively represent his constitutes in the 1st Barnstable District.

Tom served 14 years in the Massachusetts House, and so many more decades, championing projects and causes that shaped our region. A mentor, runner, golfer, and leader, he leaves behind a legacy of service.

Today, I led the Senate in adjourning in memory of Tom Cahir, a dedicated public servant from the Cape Community.

The Cape’s Bourne & Sagamore bridges are among 68 nationwide without a vulnerability assessment. The Army Corps, which owns them, must act now to ensure their safety. We can’t wait for a disaster—it’s time to evaluate and address any vulnerabilities.

Massachusetts has lots of dilapidated strip malls. They’re ugly. We should encourage multi-use redevelopment for housing and business. It builds needed housing while sustaining commercial tax bases and preserving green space.

We cannot afford a reduction of mental health beds and services in our region. I will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with my community to fight for more beds for those struggling with mental health issues.
