Indy's not quite that gullible, but the mystery will have to remain. "Well, hopefully it's a cozy cocoon after the night we've had." Trouble inevitably begat more trouble, but for now, things were quiet. Whenever and wherever it all inevitably started up again, she had little...+
"I don't. I burrow in a cocoon." It's a lie but the exact details of her life remain a secret. Even now Maria's reluctant for fear Indy won't stick around. It's a miracle that she can live on this planet for so long and still feel detached from its residents, even if Indy is a...

The usage of the word 'sidekick' gets a laugh out of Indy. "Whatever helps you sleep at night. That is, assuming you *do* sleep." Maria's a strange one; her very existence makes Indy question everything she takes for granted. Magic tends to do that.
"Please, Indy. I was born for this." The last of the fire is extinguished and the street is quiet. Maria straightens her cloak. It'll take some time for the firefighters to clear out while the police are already waving them off. "But it's nice to have a sidekick."

"*Amateur*?" Indy scoffs, but she smiles. "By my count, I figure I've been doing this longer than you have." She doesn't make a habit of going back to Earth often, but some habits die hard, and Indy was born with banter in her veins.
Given all possibilities, they've landed somewhere on the better end. Most days it's all you can ask for. "Not bad for an amateur," she says. Indy's proven herself plenty but Maria likes to poke; it's an earthly custom freshly adopted. "You might even be a professional someday."

... her breath and run a hand through her damp hair in the aftermath. It takes a handful of moments for her to realize Maria hasn't left yet; she's used to Maria having 'more important work to get to', so the feeling is odd. Indy nods at her. "Plan worked, at least."

... she's off towards the basketball court. It's hard for Indy to say they handle the situation well, but it's even harder to think that they could've done much better, considering the circumstances. Mostly, she's just glad it's over, having pulled off her helmet to catch... +

If Indy thought about it, she might realize she'd never seen Maria 'off the clock'. There's no time to think about it right now, though, because as soon as they've made the plan, she rushes off to prepare herself. It takes her only a few minutes to get herself ready, most of... +
By comparison Maria is completely decked out in her equipment and it's hard to say when she ever sleeps. She nods. "If anything goes wrong I'm sure you'll notice." In hindsight using this building might seem like forcing Indy's hand, but there aren't any better options, and...

If she didn't know how to work well under pressure, she'd be dead by now; it felt like, more and more, the stakes kept rising with everything she's ever done in her life. At the very least, she's determined that that process won't be ending tonight. Still, she feels uniquely... +
It's definitely a bad situation but she's trained to handle bad situations, and Indy seems like someone who works well under pressure. This is as good as things can get considering the circumstance. "I found it wandering the park. It seemed fixated on the basketball court.

If Indy didn't know Maria so well, she'd suspect she wasn't taking this situation as seriously as it warranted; one could only be so blasé before it seemed irresponsible. She knew from experience, though, that Maria was anything but. No, calm like this was the only chance... +
"Yes, here, in the boiler room." Despite the severity of this situation, Maria speaks as if Indy has only just missed the memo. Perhaps it's better to remain calm. Not dismissive, just not panicked either. Right now they need to be objective. "I can accomplish quite a lot with...

... might be sure there's no one listening in, but Indy knows there's at least one other person still in the apartment. When she responds, it's in a terse whisper. "Gods, really? Of *course* I've seen one before, but you don't mean... *here*?" She couldn't imagine a worse omen.

With one sentence, the balance between 'annoyance' and 'concern' at this situation is flipped utterly on its head once more. Instinctively, she snaps to attention, no longer trying to relax in Maria's presence. Indy's free hand moves up and she shushes Maria slightly; Maria... +
Maria takes a peek through the window, wary of any strange happenings below. It's quiet. At least they'd all notice if the prisoner escaped. "I know, it was an impulsive decision," she says as she shuts the curtains, "but I didn't have a better idea. That's why I need your help.

As always with Maria, Indy scarcely had time to protest the appropriate amount, because there was always something else going on. Her face runs through a few emotions that all just result in confusion as she narrows her gaze. "Hold on—what prisoner? What boiler room? *Here*?"
"Yes. I knocked first." The only vent worth mentioning is in the bathroom, so she reaches in and shuts the door. That will have to do. "Enough banter, I need your help with a prisoner. I've locked him in the boiler room, which should give us ample time to locate a real prison."

"*This* is my security system." Indy gestures with her pistol before finally lowering it, but keeps it in her grip anyways. She's not exactly dressed for important business, but that's all that Maria's sudden arrival ever heralds. As she tries to force herself to relax, her... +
"Greetings," she says. "Your security system is terrible." Maria looks around the room in search of vents that might send their conversations fluttering into another residence. This is an important matter, but also one that she doesn't want "getting out." Savior business as such.

Indy's not used to people making late-night house calls. The knocks go unnoticed at first, but they're the first step to rousing her from her rest, and soon enough she's pulling herself out of bed and down the hallway. Her raised pistol enters the room first, only then... +
This isn't the best time to bother @RelicOfTheTimes (it's exactly too late) but it's an emergency, and Maria doesn't have time to meet with someone else. So, after knocking politely to no answer, she melts the doorknob and enters the apartment.
