First, what is a canonical bridge?
CBs are the native bridges for chains, providing reliable bridging for users looking to enter and exit L2 (and L3s!).
They are good:
• For large ETH value transfers (no bps fees)
• When bridging time in not a concern (they are slow)

How’s it so fast?
Relayers use their own capital to fill cross-chain actions for users. Their funds are already on the destination chain, so they can fill requests nearly instantly.
Later, relayers use slower, more expensive bridges to rebalance funds.

Canonical bridges have a UX flaw.
When withdrawing from an L2 (L3), you have to make 2 or 3 txs to complete a withdrawal, including one when the bridge is done (~7 days later).
Do you want to have to remember to go back collect you money in 7 days?

However, they aren't great for crosschain executions or regular bridging values because they have high fixed gas fees and are slow.
