Lest our theories about voter turnout today get too specific, 4 of the last 8 non-mayoral primary/general elections have had turnouts of 10 percent or less.

Now, all voters will have a chance to make their final choice in competitive general elections. Without a competitive race at the top of the ticket, we will see if turnout remains higher than most past BOA races.

Voter turnout was higher than previous elections without a competitive top-of-the-ticket race. PBOA was unopposed. YET voter turnout was 3.08 points higher than in 2015, when it was a 2-way race w/ the PBOA. (Turnout was higher in 2019 w/2 serious challengers.) 4/

Traditionally, w/ 2 incumbents going head-to-head, there's no room for new entrants. You wouldn't be able to get voters (or donors) to take you seriously. Yet, a non-incumbent in Ward 9 was able to TAKE ON 2 INCUMBENTS AND PLACE FIRST in the primary. 3/

Voters had the freedom to express how they felt about EVERY candidate on the ballot. Thanks to this freedom, no one was talking about who was going to "steal" votes, "spoil" the election, or "split the vote." 2/

As we await official results, congrats to all candidates who are moving from the primary to the general in STL City elections! More importantly, congrats to all voters who didn't have to worry about vote-splitting in St. Louis elections yesterday! Benefits 🧵 1/

Geez reading this indictment is like a movie right now. I am so shocked at what I’m reading, that every few pages I need to take a break. I’m expecting some resignation letters coming down soon. The great people of St. Louis city don’t deserve this.

Ok. Looks like this is the first time in 80 years a citizen initiative has changed the charter. Wow. Thank you @ChelseaEsquire!
