This story launched the series back in March, a good overview of our findings and the kinds of cases we found. In all, we ID'd 1,000+ deaths following the use of so-called "less lethal" force, such as restraints, body blows and non-firearm weapons.

Every day, police in the U.S. rely on common use-of-force tactics that, unlike guns, are meant to stop people without killing them.

Same goes for the sister program @HowardCenterASU, which was also a key part of this journalistic effort. If I were advising a student considering a master's in journalism, I'd highly recommend either program. Tuition money well spent.

Great to read @HowardCenterUMD's Sean Mussenden in this piece discussing the AI and machine learning tools used in our "Lethal Restraint" collab. UMD's HC, led by @kbest, was such a wonderful teammate. Couldn't have done that project without them.

Nice of my former employer, @AP, to work in a reference to Lethal Restraint in the spot news story about the Pulitzer winners. We were a finalist, and yesterday was the winners' day to shine. They deserved the ink. So appreciate making it into the story.

@frontlinepbs Our lead film producer, Serginho Roosbald, knocked it out of the park on this. Our reporting colleagues who were on-camera did too. I'm so excited for the project team. Very well-deserved.

Law firms, universities, state governments, judges — now Powell. Like I said, Trump’s team always finds a way to execute his wishes. So protect your portfolios. Be ready for the indexes to drop again. Be defensive. Have cash on the side to deploy.

Trump testing waters with market reaction by having his team float this move. Like every other institution he’s fought, his team will find a way to let him oust Powell and dare someone to stop him. Market won’t like it. Indexes will take another leg lower. Watch your portfolios.

The Federal Reserve has long prided itself on its independence from political pressure. But that tradition is facing renewed strain as President Trump escalates his attacks on Jerome Powell, the central bank’s chair, for refusing to cut interest rates.

Nice to see our Lethal Restraint police investigation referenced in this Congressional Research Service report on "less-lethal weapons." Gratifying to know our work is having impact by helping policymakers and researchers.
