A part of good science is communicating back to the stakeholders: this week we are back out Western NSW presenting our findings…… and servicing camera traps of course

Very disappointing that yet another TRD and mortality sensor failed, luckily we recovered it by walking it down. Thank you GPS accuracy

In over 20 yrs I’ve never seen this endangered Giant Barred Frog habitat completely dry..... so this is climate change at its worst and it’s what the landscape looked like before the fires, lucky this sub tropical rainforest has not burnt yet

I was relieved to see two YAF at our Shannon site, hope for more footage tomorrow, when we drop off another 40kg to the colony
@teamswiftparrot Yes. We lost animals to the fire at this very important colony (it’s a source within the local metapopulation) but we appear to have saved most of them with supplementary food and water. We even have a couple of pouch young emerging in recent weeks! Pictures soon hopefully.

But did any BTRW drink from it?
There’s a very good #cameratrap attached to that tripod. It’s been there for a week. No, it’s not meant to be looking for tadpoles nor aquatic inverts. #fieldworkfail

Nice to see some Brush-tailed Rock Wallabies survived the fires at our site near GRAFTON and have enjoyed feasting on our sweet potato stash.

Very happy to learn I was wrong about this. Jenolan is ok for now as are two more important #rockwallaby sites. Hope they stay that way. Was going to say 3 but another central esu (ecologically significant unit) site burnt out today.
Sad to learn the important northern Wollemi #rockwallaby populations are now / will soon be threatened by #bushfire That’s pretty much it for the larger remnant populations in this State in terms of escaping fire impacts.
