Kamala Harris enjoys a wide advantage on abortion over Donald Trump among swing state voters. Majorities of voters in every state (52%-60%) trust Harris more than Trump on abortion. Only 28%-31% of voters trust Trump more than Harris on this issue.

In our latest Swing States poll, between 61% and 70% of Harris voters say that abortion will be ‘extremely’ important in determining their vote. By comparison, only between 30% and 40% of likely Trump voters say the same.

Increasing Salience of Abortion:. In national tracker polling conducted over the past year for Newsweek, only 21% of voters named abortion as among their top three issues in July 2023. By October 6, that figure had risen to 38%.

This increase has been especially driven by women. Abortion has increased from being the top issue among 20% of women when Joe Biden dropped out to being the top issue for 24% of women now.

As the election hnears, abortion has become an increasingly important issue. In the swing states, on average, abortion has gone from being named as the most important issue by 12% of voters last October, to 18% when Joe Biden dropped out, to 21% now.
