A refresher course: When a publisher stops publishing a book, that’s a business decision. When people don’t buy or boycott a book, that’s a consumer decision. When a government/gov’t official decides a community cannot have access to a book, that is censorship.

I think now is a good time to let you know that I also locked down the handle RebeccAuthor years ago… you know, just in case.

Late October 2018, right before our last midterms, pipe bombs were sent to Democratic leaders & the Tree of Life Massacre happened. We don’t have to wonder about motivations. We have to stop this violence and anti-Semitism and vote, vote, VOTE for Democrats.

How long do you think they spent deciding whether the title should be "The Spare" or "Spare?" (and did they pick the wrong one?)

Publishing friends, I hope you will appreciate this indicator of how long today was and how much was on my schedule... ...I just thought to myself, "Huh. I should have The List by now." Friends, we get the NYT Bestseller list on Wednesdays around 5:30. YEP; it's still Monday.

“Some days, doing “the best we can” may still fall short of what we would like to be able to do, but life isn’t perfect—on any front—and doing what we can with what we have is the most we should expect of ourselves or anyone else.”

I am not posting this for pity, but just to show that publishing does not break for anything, and I love what I do. And someday when I actually take a vacation, please know that these two weeks were not time off.

Tomorrow my out of office is turned off after 2 weeks-- the 1st I had Covid, the 2nd included Indigenous People's Day, my mother's 70th birthday, & a move out of an apartment. The only days I did not send work emails were Yom Kippur & the day of the move.

Hey MAGA politicians, you understand that wishing us an easy fast on Wednesday doesn’t work when you defend Kanye’s anti-Semitism on Sunday, right? xoxo, one of your “friends”

Starting to watch Station Eleven when you have Covid and know better because you read the book just before the election in 2016… is a choice only I would make.

A fun conversation I am having with myself currently. Rebecca Sherman: Wow, you really aren’t being very productive today. Me: Hello! I have Covid. Give me a break. And scene. (My overachievers, my strivers, my Type As… you feel this, right? Right?!)

Sometimes I just want to hear a little Brubeck, so I call my dermatologist’s office.
