If doing so make sure to use an OS that supports secure boot, such as ubuntu. In my case the UEFI was completely locked down and refused to boot into anything that wasnโt the onboard storage. Only way to get around the password is to replace UEFI chip or contact HP (good luck) ๐

If anyone has a locked down business/school laptop like this HP ProBook i have and you want to install another OS such as linuxโฆ my method of doing it was to get admin access within windows and then mount the EFI partition and replace the bootloader with grub. Works nicely!

for context, the board had heavy water damage which iโm guessing caused a short which burned up this diode. Replaced with some through hole diode i had lying around and was able to boot again.

With the recent talk about my previous project, CustomShell, itโs given me some motivation to possibly continue the project. I had sold my old PS4 as well, will be acquiring one soon and i will update from there.
