Happy new year! Just a reminder that I'm not on this platform anymore. Just holding on to my account so someone else doesn't take it. Check my profile for where to find me. Meanwhile... bsky-social-zjtpi-fkkms

Thanks to everyone that has made contact over the years -- whether it was for advice, a job, to share a story, to share love of game/movie/book, or anything really -- thanks for making this place a good place. Sorry, but I just can't be here any more.

I will keep this account active so that it doesn't get taken by someone else, but don't expect me to post here. As for Hinterland, TLD, and our future games, I'm not 100% sure where we'll be. Likely we will move somewhere else as well, but we'll maintain our accounts for now.

To those of you who feel that I have added some insignificant value to your daily existence and who would like to remain connected, if you so desire, you can look at my pinned tweet here to see where to find me.

I know this won't impact many of you, and some of you will likely shrug your shoulders ("good riddance to that guy!"), and to you I say: I wish you nothing but peace in your life.

So walking away is hard, but I just can't fathom a world where I willingly de facto endorse a platform led by a person whose values and actions I abhor so deeply.

At times it's been a haven. When struggling with something at work, or something in my life, it's been a comfort to post here and have positive, loving interactions with people who are essentially strangers, but made me part of their life. I appreciate you for that.

It's also shaped a much more binary view of the world for me, strengthening certain views and creating neural pathways that, too often, follow a binary good/bad, yes/no kind of pattern. It's probably made me less understanding, less forgiving. Not good qualities.

Years ago, when I first starting using twitter quite a bit, I noticed that I found myself thinking about it a lot. I'd catch myself thinking about little quips or things I might share. These thoughts came at the detriment of being present with the people who deserved my attention

It's also, at times, been an absolutely horrific place full of grotesque trolls who frankly, I will not miss one iota.

I think about all the SM and TLD players I've interacted with here over the years, and how this has always felt -- to me -- like the most "personal" and (shockingly?) kind and humanistic platform to interact with fans, where I can just be myself (blemishes and all).

But I've met so many great people thanks to this site! I often think about folks I interacted with years ago that I haven't seen for years and wonder if they are ok. I think about all the game devs I've met here, some of whom have gone on to become friends and colleagues.

I started using Twitter in Sept 2010, more than 14 yrs ago. Back then I was the director on a game and it was recommended that I use this platform to build up my personal brand and industry presence. At under 16k followers I don't think I've been that successful at it. 😅

Even my infinitesimally small contribution to this site's engagement makes me feel complicit to all the bad dynamics this site is now actively perpetuating. I feel like we're all part of some psy-op meant to destroy civilization for the benefit of the billionaire class.

I just can't in good conscience continue to give any time or energy to this site. EM has long proven himself to be the richest troll in the world, and seems hell-bent on destroying what was once a great community by re-platforming some of the literally worst people in the world.
