Calvin says “I like to verb words.” ‘verb’ is a verb here :)

#TIL பிணங்கு exists in Malayalam as a verb while only the noun form பிணக்கம் exists in Modern Tamil

It is because Srilanka is largely a caste-free society. People don’t throw trash thinking it is the lower caste’s problem of removing trash.

My respect for Sri Lanka went up immensely. It is not a developed western country. In fact 100 Indian Rupees gets 330 SL Rupees. You have an advantage. But the civic sense, customer service, cleanliness, driving sense... Outstanding! Even remote roads are well maintained.

Realised that words like மனிதன, மாதம், வருடம் are all hypercorrected forms used in High Tamil and attributed to Old Tamil but doesnt exist in its corpus.

Can we revive a sound in a language through pedagogy? I am the thinking if the retroflex approximant ழ can be revived in Tamil dialects that have historically lost them. Any thoughts?

Why does வயோதிகர் (<வயது + அதிகர்) have a Sanskrit-like sandhi? I know அதிகம் is of Sanskrit origin. Is வயது sanskrit too?

Kodava takk, tulu, malayalam all have a para- ‘to talk’ cognate. Likely that old kannada also had this.

@naa_ganesan It is very likely that haraTe has para as the root in old kannada.

I too speculate a lot when it comes to etymologies. But I don’t bend rules, and I listen to reason and rigour when people point it out. Can’t expect the same from non-academics anyway.

Looking back, in Indian middle class households, children are exposed to so much verbal abuse and physical abuse like hitting by parents and relatives. This is just not okay.

Some days I wake up very early around 4 am or so, even with little sleep of around three hours only. I can’t go back to sleep.

I just realised that Simran has acted in two Tamil films representing Srilankan Tamils - Kannathil Muthamittal and Tourist Family.

I often feel like Luna Lovegood with my tendency to come up with crazy theories, often about etymologies.

Just speculating : could இந்தா be இல்+தா ‘not give’ = take? The Old Tamil sandhi is sound here: இல்+தா>இன்+தா>இந்தா.
