Do NOT email me asking for scholarship money‼️
I will automatically delete the email. It shows me you are not interested for the right reasons. The scholarship shouldn’t be the goal, a place where you can be developed athletically and academically should be.
I am NOT A FOOTBALL COACH, stop messaging me 🤣
Athletes it’s not hard to see I coach track and field; it says it in my bio and that’s all I post about 🙃
I wish you football players the best in your recruitment
I think there’s a lot of misinformation on track scholarships. This is a good overview of how many there really are. Track isn’t football (85 scholarships) and most kids are on partials, even the All-Americans. There are also lots of walk-ons which isn’t a bad thing they are just
Athletes when’s the last time you checked in on your coach?
You expect so much from them, when’s the last time you did something for them? Asking how they are doing or how their day is going?
You’d be surprised how that would make a coach feel.
Athletes don’t wait till senior year to get the grades up‼️
It’s too late at that point and no one is gonna wait for you to do that.
Grades > athletics 💯
Get the priorities right the first time!
Jumper are sprinters‼️
Don’t believe me? Please check how fast the top jumpers in the NCAA are, or better yet how fast the WR holder was…I’ll wait.

#fast
Jumpers are SPRINTERS‼️you cannot jump far/high without being fast!
We did 4x40m wicketts (15) with 10m runoff. Working good mechanics and striking down hard to go fast. Then we did 2x40m w/o the wicketts to reinforce what we just did and ended with in place multi jumps

this same energy and attention 🤦🏽♂️ he’s actually gonna compete at trials, let’s not forget he’s an Olympian already 👀
@BillHogue34
I never said do not do other sports nor that you should SPECIALIZE in track. There are a lot of other sports what would be much more beneficial. Not a bad take, just use your head.
Continuation from yesterday w/PVC pipe. Working proper upright positions with dribbles. Started at ankle ended at knee height. Big thing is getting the foot ⬇️ and not reach, will allow for more displacement. Then did some tempo runs after 12x100m

🚨JUMPERS ARE SPRINTERS 🚨
Here I have Will doing some block work for the first time EVER! And he looks better than a lot of the “real” sprinters 🫣
You’ve got to be fast to jump; not the fastest, but fast. Jumpers STOP selling yourselves short!

Fun little triple jump drill to warm up before our jump session, I call it an exaggerated B-skip
Helps with coordination and feeling tall with the foot under the center of mass
Added the jump on the end to simulate the 3rd phase and what It should feel like
#athlete
‼️Coaches we need to stop with this “high knees”. It’s a terrible cue and teaches the athletes nothing useful.
The FOOT is responsible for height of the knee. If your foot isn’t flexed you won’t generate enough force that will optimally bring the knee up to generate force down‼️
One of my biggest pieces of advice to a coach getting into the game is:
Start where there is little to no resources. It will teach you to be so resourceful and such a better coach than starting off with state-of-the art facilities
It will also show you how bad you want it
🚨Atheltes🚨
As you get BETTER you WON’T PR as often as you did when you first started. Like newbie gains when you first start lifting. You’ll see big improvements often in the beginning, BUT overtime it takes LONGER to see any improvement. That is how human performance works
As good. Understand if you can’t get Athletic aid it doesn’t mean you’re not good enough. There simply isn’t enough to go around. So get good in the classroom, be a walk-on earn a scholarship and prove yourself. It’s a privilege to compete at any level.
Athletes there isn’t a lot of money left in most D1 programs right now. That’s OK don’t follow the money follow where you can become the best version of yourself. Your future self will thank you greatly
Took away the arms today. Trying to help focus on the push and proper angles while letting the body rise naturally. Will get better with time

🚨Can we PLEASE get rid of these plastic long jump boards?!?! 🚨
2 of my athletes slipped on the boards today, and it was 75 & sunny. 🤨
1 pulled his hamstring, done for 2 weeks 🙄
And yes they both took off optimally and it still occurred 🤦🏽♂️
For reference ⬇️
Don’t be greedy out there. There ain’t a lot of $$ and if you’re not winning conference DON’T expect near a full. Coaches will find someone overseas who don’t play games.
PSA:
Receiving a scholarship in your passion has become so much harder due to people from all around the world committing and competing for those same opportunities.
‼️Athletes‼️:
Coaches do not care about splits. Please STOP putting those out there, if you can’t do it open it doesn’t count. Example: split 48 in a 4x400 when your PR is 50. College coaches will look the other way if you put you talk about your splits.
@RaesTake
That was a workout out for him 🤣 looks like his coach told him to just mess with everyone🤣 he’s gonna be crazy come the big races. 19.4 this year?? Maybe 19.3?? Lyles better watch out
Athletes, Don’t get it twisted, this level ain’t for the weak. Just because you made it on the team DOESN’T guarantee you STAY on the team. You gotta put the work in and PERFORM.
Did you come this far to participate or dominate?

Had an athlete tell me yesterday he’s never had a coach make sprinting so simple and easy to understand 🥹
I was speechless. Probably one of THE BEST things an athlete has ever told me 🙏🏾
I love the positive impact we as coaches can have…forever
#grateful
I GET to do this
Go to a school and team where you feel like you belong and know the coach has YOUR best interest at heart and WILL develop you. Those are worth more than any amount of $$$ you get from a Scholarship.
Little posture work before we compete tomorrow.
Sand really helps the athlete feel the engagement of the right muscles and how the positions should feel. Did these the length of pit x2
Emphasis is stepping DOWN and not to cover ground, working vertical forces. Try it out
Some stair hops/bounds to end the week. Did 4xLLL,RRR,RLRL. It was about 10 steps on this flight of stairs. Great for feet and ankles, also helps with attacking the ground and not “waiting” for it. “Float” was a key cue today.

Athletes the best way to get financial aid for college? Get good grades and test scores‼️ it’s that simple! With how many people want athletic aid and how little there is, make it easier on yourself and get the grades!
1st time doing blocks with Amarrion. Can you spot the difference?
In 1 video I coached him; in the other I let him do what he wants
One day he’ll do an open 100m, my guess 10.8-10.6. He’s a jumper mainly, so I don’t need him to be wicked fast, but he does need to have speed
Long jumper need to realize this one thing. YOU HAVE TO BE FAST. You are not “JuSt A jUmPeR 🥴” just look at the greatest in history, all could go 10.2 or faster in the 100m. Just indoors for men’s NCAA D1, ALL ran under 6.9 in the 60m and all went at least 10.8 or better.
Very good practice to end the week‼️went back to the basics….jumpers HAVE TO BE FAST
Did banded takeoff to box to help with extension for CJ and Amarrion
Did partner pushes with PVC pipe, added difficulty

It’s very comical that people truly believe, with every fiber in their being, that tyreek hill could smoke Noah Lyles. They also believe that if he did lose it “WoUlD bE vErY cLoSe” 🥴
Drills from today. Lex worked on timing in the landing/air. Triple jumpers worked 2nd to 3rd phase and slight rotation of shoulder to create more torque/power at TO.
Also did some 4steps into 5 bound RRR,LLL,RLRL
This is what comp phase looks like for us

Coach when teaching proper sprint mechanics how often are you looking at the foot and the contact it makes with the ground? Or are you just looking at knee angle and “getting the knees up”?
SOLID jump day wanted to have fun and just make practice meet like and measure ALL jumps
This was 6.24m from 4 Lefts!! We are only on week 7 👀
Big things coming up for Amarrion

Got off the phone with an athlete I coached last year at a different college. Honestly one of the greatest feelings when he wanted to talk to someone about life advice and he chose me out of all people, just warms your heart. And I only coached him 1 season :)
Just curious; HS & Club coaches when a college athlete goes home for break and wants to work with you what do you do?
1) write what you think they need
2) do what the college coach wrote them
Solid jump day‼️
some 4 step jumps off a box for Matt and Will. Some 6 step jumps for CJ and Amarrion.
Emphasis was driving the foot high at takeoff to help with posture and make it easier to land. Landing issues come from takeoff and runway NEVER the actual landing
#jumps
The basics should be emphasized more than they are currently. An athlete is a “natural” and a lot of times coaches throw the basics out the window. Long term development > short term gains.
Nice drill with Amarrion, working last 3 steps of the approach
Has a habit of falling into the penultimate and leaning on his 3rd to last step
This helps him not lower so much and get the feet under him as he jumps
In turn he’s jumping more effortlessly
#progress
Matt looked great yesterday, very smooth throughout
A very easy 14m+ jump in not so favorable conditions
Time to clean up a few things, conference is gonna be goood in 2 weeks
Coaches do you ask your returning/graduated athletes for feedback about yourself❓ 🤔❓
How can I be a better coach?
What have I done well?
What can I do better?
What do you want to see more of?
What do you want to see less of?
More coaches at ALL LEVELS should be doing coaching education‼️
@ALTIS
@USTFCCCA
@usatf
have great resources to help you; some online and some in-person. There is no excuse, make time for it, find the money. The kids deserve better.
Are you a coach you’d send your kid to?
SPRINT was good! It can get better like anything, BUT it was a great start for the casual fan and getting more eyes on the sport. Hopefully they continue this and make the necessary adjustments
Playing at the next level is life changing, regardless of division. Stop asking for $ go where you can be the best version of yourself. The future you will thank you 🙏🏾
D1 = life changing opportunity
D2 = life changing opportunity
D3 = life changing opportunity
JUCO = life changing opportunity
NAIA = life changing opportunity
USCAA = life changing opportunity

Take advantage of YOUR life changing opportunity
Did some banded bounds with my triple jumper today. 1st time he’s ever done anything like that, so definitely not perfect nor do I ever expect that
Emphasis was to feel moving hips through the phases today and maintain posture. The hips drive everything in TJ
Moments like these 🥹
This was at Ole miss, and I’m so grateful someone caught it on camera
The embrace at the end captures all the joy both Kenyon and I felt as he clears a massive lifetime PR (2.09m)

Matt is very much ready for conference in 3 weeks, rounding up just in time 👏🏾
The BEST he’s looked all year‼️
5 months ago he was very different wow
Very proud of him for trusting the process, and being coachable
I will not be surprised when he PRs 👀

Do NOT email me asking for scholarship money‼️
I will automatically delete the email. It shows me you are not interested for the right reasons. The scholarship shouldn’t be the goal, a place where you can be developed athletically and academically should be.
Solid day
Added a skip to Matt’s approach and things are looking much smoother, we will see come this weekend
Fixed Amarrion’s start a bit, still a couple things to tweak, but good enough for now
Used chalk marks to give him an idea to push towards
@MikeCunningham
Awful idea. How many athlete fouled back in the 80s? Why wasn’t this done earlier if this was the right solution? It’s not. The board isn’t the reason for fouls, the athletes are. Don’t make it easier, let’s get better as coaches
Big breakthrough! No longer just throwing herself in the pit! We can’t train much due to health issues, but when we do it’s always been high quality!
Jumped 5.22m last weekend and I was happy with that considering we can only practice 1x a week 😅 oh and it was BEHIND the board
Even when injured you can still get better‼️
7cm off her PR!!!
Madison has been battling issue from knee surgery last year, and we only practice 1x a week for LJ
Bigger jumps in store! Very proud

thing I’ve noticed after working with athletes at every level:
The best are coachable.
That will literally determine how far you go as an athlete. Whether it’s NFL, NBA, Track, etc..
#2
is you don’t have to ask them to put the work in 👀

Here’s some variations in the weight room we do. Madison is still dealing with knee issues so we modified split squat jumps with speed eccentrics
Nyima doing some assisted pullups. I like this way better than having the band around the knee/leg

#WomenInSports
I post a lot about my athlete and what we do at practice/meets. 1 thing you wouldn’t/couldn’t tell is that the are all walk-ons except for 1
I hope that shows y’all that you’ll still get high quality training even as a walk-on
I hope it changes your idea of a walk-on in D1
@MikeCunningham
Bonus: you are recruiting the coach as much as they are recruiting YOU! Give them a reason to want you besides your times!! Talent is Global! Character is not! 💯
BIG SB for Matt‼️
5cm off his PR!!!
He’s a whole new jumper! Still work to be done and things to fix as we head into conference in a couple weeks
He fouled a couple that would’ve been huge PRs but we will get them back soon!
Very proud of the progress he’s made 👏🏾
Man throwers are another beast‼️
Yes that’s 225lbs power snatch 😅
I loved seeing them do these crazy things. My jumper was in here with his jaw on the floor, “coach that’s my max hang clean” 🤣 yeah mine too
Some block work today for Cam and Will
2nd day doing blocks EVER for Will (still better than most sprinters 😤)
Cam (10.2/10.1) guy with much to work on. You can see the difference, both hit similar shapes and move different, but accomplish the same goal

Forgot to mention 2 athlete In the competition pulled their hamstring a from this plastic board.
@NCAATrackField
rules states there should be a WOODEN board or other suitable rigid material….PLASTIC is NOT suitable! How many have to get hurt until we stop this??
