It's pissing me off that people are going out of their way to search my profile and screenshot my character tier list to call me a hypocrite without reading the WHOLEASS THREAD I made about why there's a difference between characters like Alastor and Valentino๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ be fr

Okay I've been thinking of talking about this for a while, so: Why villains who are rapists are taken much more seriously than other typically evil villains. (Sorry for the clunky english, it's not my first language)

To people who ask about other villains, here's my opinion. It's a valid question and it's good to ask ourselves about or pressumptions on morality: https://t.co/kLc1niLzdv

I hope I made my point clear. This topic is very complex and I know others may disagree, but please be respectful! That's all.

For example: disney villains, we can compare Ursula to Frollo. The way they are portrayed is wildly different. Yes, Ursula is evil, but Frollo represents the very real societal problems of racism and rape, and thus is taken much more seriously by the story, and the audience.

When your story tries to make a point about these societal problems, but makes the villain who represents them a comic relief, it makes it seem as if you don't take these topics seriously and downplays your own message.

This is why we see so many villains that will kill and torture but will "draw the line" at bigotry and rape. These are not to be taken lightly, you cannot make a comical villain who engages in these acts without being disrespectful and even feeding into these ideals.

Basically, rape is not only bad, but a SOCIETAL PROBLEM that needs to be taken seriously. This also applies to other topics, like bigotry (racism, misoginy, homophobia, etc) and genocide (branch of bigotry but still).

It is not only that rape is bad, but that society constantly shields and defends rapists, unlike general murderers or cannibals. Every day people trivialize it through jokes and comments, which may seem small, but make up a bigger picture of perpetuating sexual violence.

There is a whole name for the phenomena, 'rape culture' which refers to; 'a society or environment whose prevailing social attitudes have the effect of normalizing or trivializing sexual assault and abuse'

Besides this, my real point here is rape is deeply seeped into our society, unlike other types of violence like murder or cannibalism.

The first thing we have to acknowledge is that unlike other crimes, rape is NEVER justified. It is inherently morally evil- It holds much more weight than other crimes, and most people perceive it as such.

People IN REAL LIFE allow men who are conventionally atractive to get away with heinous shit just because they are atractive men, and we should not repeat this rethoric EVEN IN FICTION, because it seeps into our real life and the way we view real people. Please.

I'm gonna be the friend that's too woke: this is rape culture. Exclaiming how much you think a rapist character is hot diminishes the harm they have done and is extremely disrespectful, even if they're fictional.
