@LongDesertTrain Note: My initial dashboard missed a few sequences with missing nucleotides. Thanks to @JosetteSchoenma and @siamosolocani for nucleotide queries which pick up all BA.3.2* as of now.

Variant trackers rely on rapid, accessible tools like Cov-Spectrum, Nextclade, and others to stay robust but with the GISAID pipeline broken lately, rapid spotting and reporting of new variants will take a hit.

Watch out for BA.3.2 and emerging recombinants w/ NB.1.8.1 or XFG* especially in BA.3.2-prevalent regions like Western Australia. Global sequencing and reporting are at their lowest & access to sequence databases is getting increasingly cumbersome.

Excellent thread on BA.3 from @LongDesertTrain
https://t.co/jdJZb8IZRD
Do you remember BA.3—the weakling cousin of BA.1 & BA.2 that seemed to take the worst from each & had weaker ACE2 binding than even the ancestral Wuhan Virus? After 3 years, BA.3 is back. And it is transmitting. Who saw this coming? 1/13

BA.3.2 exhibits robust antibody evasion + low ACE2-binding capability (Guo et al, 2025; https://t.co/bVIgM7PeHL)

The SARS-CoV-2 saltation variant BA.3.2, harbouring over 50 mutations relative to its ancestral BA.3 lineage, has recently drawn global attention (figure A). Notably, BA.3.2 exhibits 44 mutations...
