Chennai temperature right now(peak noon) is 23.8C🥶🥶, lower than Bengaluru 25.7 without actual rains
Enjoy the cold blast, it is only 4-6 days in a year, maximums go below 25C in Chennai
#Chennai
Crazy numbers across Kerala.
Vadakkanchery 338mm
Alathur 300mm
Haven't seen such numbers in Kerala since August 2019 carnage
Atleast both August 2019, 2018 were predicted by weather models, this one has been totally unpicked by any models
#Kerala
#KeralaRains
I know I sound like I am exaggerating, but weather models are showing CATASTROPHIC RAINS over Ernakulam, Thrissur and Idukki district
These rains will be fuelled by massive vorticity over Ernakulam district
I have never seen such dangerous weather charts in my life
#kerala
Mega mega deluge ahead for Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Thootukudy districts.
I repeat, this is not a normal monsoon flood, THIS IS NOT A NORMAL FLOOD
THESE ARE ONCE IN 200 YEARS SPELL
Anyone living in groundfloor in these 3 districts should move to higher ground. IMMEDIATELY
People of Kerala, South Interior Karnataka, you are in the last 10 days of peak summer.
From May 7(+ or - 1 day) onwards, intense summer rains will commence over the region, which will bring down the temperatures.
I have not seen such numbers in my weather tracking history as much as I am seeing today from Tirunelveli and Thootukudy districts.
More rains in store.
This is a real catastrophe, I hope Army and NDRF is made aware of the extent of the disaster happening there
#Tirunelveli
Visuals from Kanjirapally as a bus is caught in flood waters and people had to be rescued.
P.S: Rains are slowly reducing, but it will pick up pace anytime soon. Danger remains till tomorrow noon. Do not step out unless local govt authorities tell you to do so.
#keralarains
Dangerous rainfall expected in a 20-30 km stretch between Cuddalore and Nellore, not sure where exactly, but it will happen for sure( 20-30cm type flooding rains)
#NEM2022
Chennai makkaley, are you ready for the next big round??
Tharamanaa sambhavam awaiting Greater Chennai region from 10th night onwards.
Very heavy rains expected across KTCC districts, Nellore and Tirupathi of South Andhra.
Exercise due caution
#chennairains
Glorious chennai weather of heat and humidity is back. 😂😀
And weathermen who had forecast "14 days of Ooty weather" in Chennai have silently moved on to talk about hypothetical December cyclones
Today is the last day of South West Monsoon over the country.
Widespread heavy rainfall, scattered Very heavy rainfall and isolated extreme rainfall is expected over Kerala, Coastal karnataka, Konkan/Goa and West Bengal.
Goodbye Monsoon 2023, may a monsoon like you never
Thank y'all for 3000 followers.Bigger thanks to those who engage(like, comment, troll) on my posts.

Finally did map of average district wise annual rainfall of Tamilnadu with due credits to
@indiainpixels
Areas receiving direct rainfall from SWM(Nilgiris, Coimbatore), or NEM(Chennai, Nagai) are the wettest parts of TN while tiruppur, karur is the driest belt
#Tamilnadu
I am seeing more and more people who are putting blame of Kerala rains on global warming
This is wrong, Kerala rains used to be much more violent /dangerous pre 1980s. 2018 rains are nothing compared to 1924, 1961
Environmental destruction is the reason for floods, IMO
Don't think the peak rains of the depression off Tamilnadu coast will be over Chennai.
Massive sooniyam for chennai rains were kept before 3 days itself.
15cm max today.
still even this can cause localised issues
#ChennaiRains
#Chennai
Coastal Karnataka is the rainiest subdivision of the country during June, July and August and Udupi the rainiest district in the country
Yet public mistakenly assumes Meghalaya to be the wettest region, which is largely a 2 station wonder
Controversial take:
System has been a failure for Chennai, not even a single station crossed 100mm, samalification of saying we got 60mm doesn't cut ice
It is unrealistic to expect 200-300mm in a single day, but 100-150mm is a realistic expectation which failed
#ChennaiRains
What does very vorticity imply?
It means rainfall that is to be spread across Kerala, gets concentrated into a single stretch.
For eg, within next 24 hrs, Aluva can get 400mm rainfall, while Thrissur just 40mm
This can absolutely pulverise the affected region
#KeralaRains
Tiruchendur 606mm now😥😥this is the 2nd wettest rainfall figure in Recorded history of Tamilnadu PLAINS
No words to describe this, may God save all those stranded
#TNRains
There are very less chances for any system that will form in the upcoming week to move beyond Nellore.
Mark my words, entire Tamilnadu is in for a treat next 10 days
Delta will get pounded.
KTC region, Madurai region, Tirunelveli region all will get heavy rainfall
#TamilNadu
Made a district wise map of average annual rainfall over Karnataka
This is historical data, 2010-2022 analysis would show increasing rainfall over Uttara Kannada, Bengaluru Urban/Rural , Tumakuru districts
#Karnataka
Overall, yesterday was just the starting of a long spell for kerala
This spell is likely to last till August 9.
From tomorrow onwards, ghat regions will witness the full force of monsoon and that's when real problem starts
So,it is a rough journey ahead

Life update: Moved to United States to pursue masters.
From the land of monsoon to the land of tornadoes( though right now, I am moving to Phoenix 😁which is in midst of a mega heat wave)
Ignore my old post. Threat to Ernakulam and Thrissur districts have reduced ,now Malappuram, Kozhikode and Pathanamthitta districts will face very heavy rains
Overall,no deluge type rains expected, but it will be very heavy type causing local to medium flooding
#KeralaRains
I have both good news and bad news
Bad news: Upcoming system will be affected by dry air and will give heavy rainfall only to limited areas
Good news: That "limited areas" might end up being Chennai/KTC region
Mark the date 21 November
#FingersCrossed
Combined average Annual Rainfall map of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu.
Impact of Western Ghats seen clearly through this map.
Will do next for Telugu states in few days if no one else takes it up till then, else will see their data to provide combined South India rainfall map.
What a beautiful and rare sight!!'
Monsoon has gone into vigorous mode and vast stretches of India cutting across states ,are now seeing rains(Ironically, only Meghalaya looks clean/dry)
Waiting for tomorrow's All India daily rainfall figure
Action has begun over Chennai and it only increase from here onwards.
40% chances for an extreme rainfall event over Chennai tomorrow, so take precautions

Calm before the storm.
There has been a massive build-up of clouds in the Arabian sea west of Kerala.
This will move in by evening/tonight , bringing in the first major spell of the year to Kerala.
Enjoy the Sun while it lasts.
#Kerala
Let me repeat. No amount of de-urbanisation or building dams or removing silt could have made south TN ready for the carnage it is receiving right now.
This is the stuff that destroyed civilizations and towns in the past, it is due to modernity city would still emerge back
Massive monsoon surge seen over Kerala.
I would everyone from Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and entire Malabar districts to be careful today. Avoid going out.
Wayanad should be triple careful today. Landslides could occur even today.

pls share to warn people in Idukki, kottayam, ernakulam districts
Nothing can stop November last week prolonged spells for Tamilnadu starting from Nov 23 and strengthening around Nov 27 .
It will be the most powerful so far, as it won't be limited to any areas and will be wide spread in distribution.
#nem2021
This year "Kathiri Veyil/Agni Nakshatram" over Tamilnadu will be a "damp squib"😄
Prolonged and persistent summer rains expected over majority areas of Tamilnadu from May 6 onwards, that will result in below normal summer temperatures this year
Deadly looking monsoon surge for the next 4 days.
Very heavy to extreme rains likely all the way across many areas of Kerala, Karnataka and South konkan
GFS fantasy maps for pluviophiles(Rain lovers) is out😁😁severe cyclone for AP and monsoon onset for kerala by may 24 as per this model.
P.S: This scenario is highly unlikely to happen, so just enjoy the colorful looking maps with loads of salt
Best and heaviest spell of the year for West Coast from Kannur to Palghar to commence from Saturday.
This promises to be almost 10-14 days of daily extreme rains.
Significant flooding can be expected over Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Karnataka similar to 2019
Take care
Depression 94B ends up not even giving a single drop to Chennai
Massive failure
Let's move on to the December rains which will once again give rains to Delta and keep Chennai in the lurch
Made a District wise average annual rainfall map of Kerala.
Idukki is the wettest district of Kerala followed by Kasaragod.
Thiruvanathapuram is the driest district of Kerala, but the driest place lies in Palakkad district( Pudur, near Attapady)
Yesterday, I would have said extreme rain possibility for chennai is just 5%.
Today, I would say it is 25% as cyclone is intensifying much more than expected than models and decreasing shear tendency is seen
Time to tighten the belts
#CycloneMandous
#ChennaiRains
Peak Monsoon surge over Karnataka is expected on 13th and 14th
I request people of Malenadu to be on alert during those days and tourists to avoid planning trips, treks etc
Extreme rains are expected and landslides can't be ruled out

This June has brought great disappointment to all monsoon lovers, especially from the West coast region from kerala to konkan.
However, from July, monsoon will enter beast phase and entire west coast will be excess this july😍great month ahead for monsoon lovers

Happy Onam to all😊😊
In the flooding years of 2018,2019 Onam brought pause in rain.
In this drought affected year, Onam is bringing back revival of monsoon.
Daily moderate rains are expected from today with occasional heavy rains

All 3 models released this month so far - CanSIPS, ECMWF, BOM are calling for rare La Nina and +IOD combination, previously seen in 2007
This will bring a bountiful monsoon over India. Floods are expected across many swathes of India this year.
#Monsoon2024
Good days ahead for Chennai and South Andhra, including Tirupati and Nellore.
Heavy rains to commence from 10th November onwards.
Pilgrims travelling to Tirumala, check weather before proceeding
Finally the time of the year when Chennai weather is so perfect 😍 28.5/20.5
Next 2.5 months are the best time to visit Chennai/Mahabalipuram/Puducherry for tourists
Only a grazing Arabian sea cyclone in October can now save Kerala from a historic drought.
There is now 60% chances Kerala might be heading towards the driest year in recorded history.
Will post more on terrible drought conditions starting to form across India.
The morning cloudiness, 2 rounds of rain while eating breakfast, again cloudiness, the sun teasing you with no-rain show for 30 minutes and again clouds darkening, windows banging and rains again😍😍
Monsoon rains are a true bliss
#KeralaRains
#Monsoon2023
Chennai lies right over the expected cyclone track.
Due to dry air intrusion and wind shear, effect over Chennai would be only 20%-30% of Vardah. Yet risks of extreme rainfall event remains, better to be prepared
#chennairains
#CycloneMandous
This year monsoon would be a special one for North India. Whatever excess evaporation that happened during the heat wave would be repaid with interest.
#Monsoon
Today Kerala weather is bit difficult to predict.
Any 2 of the below mentioned 7 districts - kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur, Ernakulam Pathanamthitta, Kottayam can witness extreme rains
Not sure which 2, will update soon
#KeralaRains

Extremely favourable pattern for India, particularly Western Ghats.

Say goodbye to any chances of Early onset of NEM
South West Monsoon(SWM) is all set to revive in a grand manner
Heavy rains can be seen across Kerala, as Kerala is always the main target in October SWM surge.
Interior areas of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana all will get rains
Kundala dam in kerala records 0.7C minimum😍,
anyone wants to see negative temperatures in kerala during this weekend, go to this place, high chances of below-zero temperatures
Anyone planning trip to Idukki district between August 2 and 5, please drop all your plans
Idukki district looks very dangerous between August 2 and 5
In general, ghats of central kerala looks dangerous
Forced out of sleep by thundering sound of rains.
Entire June quota of rains for chennai crossed overnight.
Some suburbs have scored century already.
#ChennaiRains
It has become uncommon to see a classic Monsoon onset vortex in recent years.
Therefore when it has finally shown up this year, irrespective of 600 hPa winds, from a layman's perspective(I don't have degree in meteorology), I feel monsoon should have been declared
The current spell targetting Kerala and Karnataka coasts and ghats is an ideal spell...days of prolonged very heavy rains that fills up dams and water table
But no extreme spells like in 2019 and 2020 that brought death and destruction
Damn I did not realize it was that bad.
Not much mention in national media, international media,no wikipedia article yet
More awareness needed on extent of this tragedy for those outside Tamilnadu
