Year 1 have been using their DT cooking skills to make coleslaw! Yum yum!

In our English lesson today, Year 4 made some musical instruments and experimented with pitch and volume using elastic bands. The children were learning about this in preparation for their new English topic, in which they will be writing a set of instructions.

This week we have been learning about prepositional language and using the story book, 'Rosie's Walk' by Pat Hutchins as our starting point. We have made hen and fox masks to use as we acted out the story, made a large outdoor obstacle course and played games!

Year 5 have started their art project, all about portrait drawing! We've looked at art by Klimt, Rossetti, Lichtenstein and Kehinde Wiley.

Update from the OPAL Gardening Club: With the money raised from our plant sale last week, we were able to purchase some special composting worms to go into our wormery!

This week, our OPAL gardening club built our first bug hotel in our 'Observation Station' area in the Junior playground. The children collected lots of materials including: old bricks, wooden pallets, old roof tiles, cardboard tubes, corrugated cardboard, pine cones and dead wood

Sports Day was a huge success! A BIG well done to all our children for competing they all showed resilience, perseverance and displayed good sportsman ship, we are so proud! . Thank you to Jimmy from Funshine for hosting the event.

This week in Science, Y3 looked at the strength of different magnets. We learnt about ring, horseshoe and bar magnets. We planned then carried out an investigation to discover which magnet is the strongest by attracting the most paperclips.

This week in Geography, Y3 looked at how to find different points on an atlas using grid references. We learnt several symbols that are used universally to show different places and found examples on regional maps. We then created our own sketch maps of our local area.

This week in Nursery, we have read the story book, 'A Fruit is a Suitcase for a Seed' by Jean Richards. They have been using digital microscopes to look closely at the seeds!

This week Year 1 explored a range of painting techniques using primary and secondary colours. Children learned how to apply colour both as a wash and in bold, solid blocks. They discovered how to lighten colours without using white!

Nursery have also been learning about repeating patterns. Continuing, copying and creating ones of our own - all with a growing garden theme for their topic.

We had a fantastic Friends of Raddlebarn community event on Friday! our annual Pizza and Beats event was enjoyed by all! Thanks to all who came and parent who helped to make the event happen (including the band!) 🍕
