pretty sure i'll be querying my horror book at the start of september, which is perfect since the festival it's set in occurs in that month.

if the scammers and bots can persevere, so too can you with your writing goals.

behind every writer is a preferred software for writing (the holy trifecta: Word, Google Docs, Scrivener) & a horror story about why they don't use the others.

writer struggles:.• killing darlings.• having brainrot about stories.• needing that one song on replay loop.• no snacks or caffeinated beverage.• trying to balance multiple wips.• agonizing over rewriting a difficult sentence.• sitting down to write & brain clocking out.

that's not to say you shouldn't edit. please do revise & edit your book, and then some. get critique partners & beta readers for much-needed feedback. but don't let anyone (including an agent) tell you hiring an editor is required to have a shot at representation.

PSA to writers: you do not need to hire a developmental editor to get an agent or land a book deal. as others have said: publishing is not — and should not become — pay-to-win.
