When we build, we should build back nature too. That’s what Biodiversity Net Gain is designed to do - don’t let the UK Government weaken it 👇.

Biodiversity Net Gain promises more green spaces when developers build. But new UK Government proposals could exempt 97% of developments. That’s a loss for communities, and a blow to nature’s recovery. Speak up 👇.

Publishing this data is welcome and a key step forward, but the evidence itself highlights the scale of effort required for Protected Landscapes to deliver for nature and achieve their 30 by 30 commitment. .

We also encourage government to come forward with the promised reform of the statutory purposes and governance of these landscapes. For the first time, government has published data on the state of nature in Protected Landscapes.

These are pivotal to enabling Protected Landscape authorities to play their part in delivering government’s commitment to deliver 30 by 30 as well as contribute fully to achieving statutory targets in the Environment Act.

Proposed changes to Biodiversity Net Gain could exempt most developments from contributing to nature and fall short on major infrastructure. This risks taking the system backwards. BNG must be strengthened, not weakened. Take action 👇.

This is a critical moment. Let’s choose a future where nature thrives, not one where we look back and wish we’d acted sooner.

Nature can’t wait. The revised EIP, due later this year, must drive recovery at the scale and pace this crisis demands. If we’re serious about meeting legally binding targets, especially halting species decline by 2030, the PIB must be substantially improved.

Under the Environmental Improvement Plan (EIP) 7 out of 11 targets for nature are largely off track, with the remainder partially off track or not assessed. Meanwhile, the Planning Bill risks weakening the very protections needed to reverse species decline and restore habitats.
