A Free State Police Officer, Sergeant Thabo Tlali, 41, was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment or a fine of R30 000, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of culpable homicide. Tlali knocked a pedestrian dead while he was driving state vehicle under the influence of alcohol in 2023.

IPID welcomes a sentence of life imprisonment imposed on Constable Vincent Rammutla (41), after he was found guilty of murder of his girlfriend by the Pretoria High Court. The officer shot and killed his girlfriend after an altercation at the home in Mamelodi.

A 55-year-old Crime Intelligence Officer, Warrant Officer Solomon Mashiane was sentenced to seven years for rape of a 17-year-old by Pretoria North Magistrates Court. The incident happened on 08/07/2017 when the officer gave the complaint a lift, promosing to drop her off at home

(2/2) The officer first appeared in court on 03/06/2025 and the case was postponed to 10/06/2025 for legal representation. He will remain in custody. The incident allegedly happened on 31/05/2025 in Boikhutsong Section, Mabopane.

(1/2) Case against Pretoria Crime Intelligence officer arrested for murder, assault and pointing of a firearm was postponed to 18/06/2025 for bail application by Garankuwa Magistrates Court. The officer allegedly assaulted and fired at two men who were going to a local tavern.

The bail hearing of the Police Captain from the Pretoria Police Training Academy, accused of raping a 20-year-old female trainee, has been postponed to 29 May 2025. The accused officer allegedly raped the victim on 06 May 2025 at the Police College.

{4/4} The two police officers were sentenced to five years for attempted murder and 18 months for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. They will effectively serve five years in prison after the sentences were ordered to run concurrently.

{2/4} Sergeants Steffans Breytenbach (39) and Louis Venter (40), were sentenced for shooting a civilian on 11 May 2025, at around 20h30, when he refused to stop at a roadblock. The victim was stopped at a roadblock and while the police were issuing a fine, he jumped into his car.
