Statement from the Rochester Police Locust Club regarding recent comments by Rochester City Council members.

3/3: Officers preserved their own lives and the lives of community members in the area, by responding exactly as they did. We are short staffed by 120 officers because statements like this deter potential candidates. Also, recent lawsuit stripped PAB of investigatory authority.

2/3: This person had other options, but instead chose to pull a gun on 2 police officers. That was a poor choice. Pulling a gun on police officers is a criminal matter, not a mental health crisis.

1/3: This statement is detached from reality and from the facts of the incident. City officials have a responsibility to be impartial. This statement fails to meet that standard, instead serving as an example of their bias.

Locust Club statement on last night's incident on Ernestine St. near Thurston Rd.

This guy killed a man in 2010. Earlier this year, he was released on parole. Last night, he ran a red light and hit a police car, then fled the scene. He was located, and issued an appearance ticket. Do NYS laws make you feel safe?

We extend our deepest sympathies to our brothers and sisters in the City.

This is the 4th time the same person has been arrested for DWI. After his 3rd arrest, he received a conditional discharge. This time, he killed an innocent man. Do NYS laws make you feel safe?

Three years ago today, our brother was taken from us while doing his job. Officer Anthony Mazurkiewicz was murdered in the line of duty on July 21, 2022. Maz lived as a hero to his family and friends, and died as a hero to Rochester.

The public should never interfere with an arrest. There are procedures available to the community to raise concerns with police activity. (3/3).

Members of the public attempting to intervene with this arrest escalated the situation. (2/3).

Regarding an incident that took place on Locust St. on June 27th: Our members were placed in a volatile situation with a crowd that interfered with official police business. Our members conducted themselves professionally and consistent with their training. (1/3).

Yesterday, while in pursuit of an armed homicide suspect, our members heroically put themselves at risk and had no choice but to return fire once the suspect fired upon them. Fortunately, our members avoided major injury. We thank the community for its support and concern.
