Hi all! Wanted to share that Interspeech 2025 will be having a Special Session on Queer and Trans Speech Science and Technology, and we highly encourage anyone to submit!! The deadline is on February 12, 2025 (with paper updates being due Feb. 19th).

One year left of the PhD (hopefully), taking a deep breath, and getting back to work. Everything I've ever said yes to throughout the course of grad school is catching up with me, and I'm determined and excited to finish strong. One more year.

Remember when the threat to free speech were woke kids?.
Teachers College, Columbia University dropped 11 new policies last week. It’s now against the rules to protest, table, distribute flyers, or do essentially any activity that expresses “views, disagreement, or support regarding a given subject” without approval from the university

Voice technology cannot and should not be built in a vacuum. I'm so excited for the potential benefits this tech could bring, but, to do this right, we must involve and talk to as many people as possible. Thanks for reading a long and rambling thread 😅. 13/13.

There are too many examples of tech and AI gone wrong, and it's too easy for automated systems to perpetuate harm. A more detailed video or article about the app is in the works, but I wanted to first just post here to get answers to these questions: . 11/13.

This is the high-level idea for this first attempt at releasing voice tech, but the plan is to make this more than just one-off app for a study, but an ideally free, widely available resource for folks who want to voice train. And this sort of work can't be done alone. 10/13.

Since this is our first attempt at releasing tech, there's no doubt that we will have gotten things wrong or missed. As part of the study, there will be a discord server where participants will be able to interact with the research team and critique our work. 9/13.

As part of this study, if participants consent to data collection, we will be storing voice clips and participants' answers to surveys and quizzes. At any point, participants can navigate there to their profile to easily delete their data and revoke participation. 8/13.
