It’s insane to me that an actual medical professional can prescribe or order something for a patient and insurance can just say “nah fam”

@RNSuperHero And this is after a physician has ordered something that they *know* might not be covered and we have already factored that into the equation. We know that a plan means nothing if it cannot be implemented. It’s exhausting for everyone.

@RNSuperHero It really is wild. And it’s like a cardiologist having to explain himself to a podiatrist.

@RNSuperHero Every prior authorization or peer to peer makes me crazy. The doctor recommends a certain medication, radiation, a scan and nope, insurance denies and makes you prove the necessity.

@RNSuperHero I’ve worked in insurance for 5 years (& am in nursing school) & I remember insurance once denied this guys ambulance ride bc “a headache” wasn’t an emergency. Like it could’ve been a stroke, an aneurysm, or so many other things if it was bad enough he felt the need to call 911???

@RNSuperHero It’s wild. Deeply unjust, ridiculous and a major major defect (one of many) of the broken healthcare system in this country.

@RNSuperHero Insurance is like, “well, we see that you’re paying us so much every year, you can probably afford to pay for this out of pocket.”

@RNSuperHero I was just told that Friday by my primary's PA. There's a medication that will work better than the current one but insurance rarely covers it, even with those worse than me.

@RNSuperHero But a vet can recommend horse medicine for human Covid and they’re like “hey sure why not!”

@RNSuperHero With some drugs it doesn't even make financial sense, like inhalers. LAMA/LABA has less coverage than LAMA/LABA/ICS.

@RNSuperHero Post op outpatient. Family was supposed to pick up his pain med, because his pharmacy closed early. They can’t get it, because they can’t afford to pay out of pocket, and his insurance won’t cover it. Confirmed it wasn’t covered ‘because he’s already on a benzo.’ 😳
