I was literally just talking about a couple people I knew that aren’t very developed bedside nurses and still need time. Somehow this went viral and now I’m being subtweeted like crazy 🥴🤷‍♀️

@RNSuperHero Hear what you are saying but also consider that the way RNs were/are treated during Covid I might just consider sticking with academia for now too. 🤷‍♀️

@PdxDanean But NPs aren’t “academia” they are treating and managing real people and need the skills and experience to do so

@RNSuperHero Even though I agree with you for my journey, the board allows that to happen, so who am I to judge someone else’s journey? I’ve seen people thrive in roles I didn’t think they were prepared for.

@unicorn_mcsynn I didn’t say everyone. Specially some nurses I know and work with who I’m like “yikes”

@RNSuperHero Honest question because my daughter is considering nursing... how long should she work to gain ample experience before considering NP or PA programs. I ask because other careers can jump right to next level so I’m not sure of the answer.

@Carankin95 I feel like now at the 5 year mark I could pursue a higher level if I wanted and do so confidently. Does she have an idea what area she’d like to work in?

@RNSuperHero I know a girl who has like 1-2 years of postpartum, not even L&D experience, and she is in a midwife program. Oh and she is anti vax 😊

@RNSuperHero And this is why me & others have constantly pressured @AANP_NEWS , @NONPF and CCNE to require RN experience prior to admission. It is a healthy and necessary requirement for practice. People on the ground believe this to be true. It's the programs that don't care because of $$$.

@RNSuperHero I saw this a lot while in Surg ICU. Very inexperienced nurses did this sometimes & I disliked.

@RNSuperHero Cannot do that in Australia. Must already have post graduate qualifications AND advanced practice experience before starting the degree, then 5000 hours advanced practice for endorsement.

@RNSuperHero Taking grad school classes (20yrs RN), have someone in one class who hasn't graduated from undergrad yet. I'm sorry, what?

@RNSuperHero i ended up supervising an RN who argued with me about having to get orders from a physician because she was “practically an NP anyway” [6 months from graduating her program] she didn’t know what Lasix was

@RNSuperHero I thought most programs required a certain amount of floor nursing to be eligible to apply? Unless it’s just certain specialties?

@RNSuperHero By the time I graduate with my MSN I will have 8.5 years of bedside nursing experience and I constantly ask myself if I have enough experience. I cannot imagine going straight from my BSN to the NP program. 🤷🏼‍♀️
