Voor festival @RMWAdam werk ik aan een ‘Kleine catalogus van gevangen woorden’. Bij de tekst horen beelden, zoals een foto van het massagraf achter de kerk in Boetsja. Bij dit beeld hoort het gevangen woord ‘KERK’. Op 14 september draag ik de tekst voor.

Question from the audience: "What kind of people would you like people to leave the festival with?" abigail: "I'm trying the exercise of giving up control in my life. This also has to do with the many ways people react. I've learned a lot from Édouard Glissant..."

abigail: "Collectivity is a form of prosperity." Sorab is doing such a wonderful job keeping up with all the gems abigail is dropping. Honestly, we can barely keep up. Come witness 'em for yourself on September 12, 13 & 14. Ticket sale starts on June 3:

abigail on the source of her power, her inspiration: "In some ways it's to create where I can live. This is not my world. I don't have a world. It's a spell to create the world where I'd be the world. The state of the world is my source of wanting to change it."

abigail: "It's a way to live as if you are free. And you say: 'F- the rules.' (...) My passion is to find and create those moments when these restricting worlds don't find their way to my words and my body (...) I'm also a poet!" Sorab: "What is your source of power to do this?"

Sorab: "The Read My World-team stated that they were blown away by your various propositions of different worlds." abigail: "It's crucial to demolish these boundaries. Anthological boundaries work as a form of control. This is why the infinite is so important to me."

abigail: "There's a contradictory beauty. It gives me the feeling of trying to create a revolution... in a mall." Sorab is saluting the student protests in Amsterdam, Groningen, Rotterdam, Delft, Leiden.. cities are shouted out from the crowd. Yesss!🍉"We are the change!" - Sorab

abigail is discussing the possibilities that cities like Amsterdam, Berlin and São Paulo seem to offer. "With death also being a very realistic possibility. And, there's this promise of freedom, of being decolonial. But, what's really happening?"

abigail: "I've learned from my parents to disobey the limits." Sorab asks abigail about her first impression of the Netherlands. Well, Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Shoutout to @KunstMelly who welcomed us yesterday! "Being here gives me a weird, contradictory feeling."

This talk between abigail and Sorab is sooo good. Sorab invites abigail to take us back to where her work started. "I'm a descendant of enslaved people, Indigenous people and the Portugese. My Black and Indigenous heritage strengthen me in fighting for the infinite." - abigail

abigail: “I love what Fred Moten said about the Undercommons. ‘The only thing the Undercommons can do in the university is to sneak into it, steal everything and run.” abigail and Sorab are discussing the importance of how to enter and escape a space.

abigail: “At first I thought Read My World’s invitation was a scam.” We’ll take that as a compliment about our smoothness!

Willemijn: “Throughout the years, the question to our curators remains the same: ‘Let me read the world through your eyes.’ (…) I’m grateful Sorab Roustayar accepted our invitation to be in conversation with abigail.”
