We had a blast last Friday with Representative @AthenaHollins at @FreeGeekTC! We discussed what a 100% eWaste Collection program would do for businesses like theirs and what opportunities they could provide for the community if a state-wide collection program existed.

RECA was proud to support Lichen Labs in submitting a project to the Electronics Scrap Recycling Advancement Prize. In their research they were successful in extracting copper and other metals from shredded circuit boards using plant material.

While RECA is providing leadership in the ambitious campaign to create a 100% electronic waste recycling program in Minnesota, we are learning from and monitoring progress and best practices in other states -- like New Hampshire: https://t.co/2DhlxeuNqQ

RECA spent last Sunday at the Zero Waste Day in the Park connecting with folks about the 100% Electronics Collection initiative. Over 300 people from the Mankato area came out to swap clothing, learn about zero waste legislation and get things mended by local fixers!

Our 100% Electronic Waste Recycling bill was adopted as a MN DFL platform item with a 72.6% vote. This week RECA will begin working again with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, and Minnesota counties to improve the language and make a plan for passage come January.

Alkaline batteries can be recycled! Folks like @cirba_solutions separate the steel, brass, paper, zinc and reuse them for construction and agricultural purposes - You can take ALL of your used batteries to your local e-waste collector.

I've always thought sorted e-waste is beautiful - one of my hobbies is finding pretty components to take pictures of! Minnesota's e-waste stream isn't just aesthetically pleasing, it contains $3.2b worth of metals according to our content study: https://t.co/ElsadwwZf5

When possible R2 and e-Stewards certified e-waste recyclers prioritize reuse first. Most of an electronic device's carbon footprint comes from the manufacturing process, so every device that can be reused rather than recycled helps to mitigate green house gasses!

The 100% Electronic Waste Recycling bill had a great debut, three great hearings, and bi-partisan support. It is clear to us that the MN legislature is committed to this work. A big thank you to Rep. @AthenaHollins and Senator @RobKupec
