Also, I highly recommend the work of David Nicholls as a history of political theology, the interrelation between theological & political concepts influencing one another (without any kind of causal claim).

Part of the problem with current political theory in general is not reckoning the gulf between pre-modern terminology & modern statecraft, & how this obscures the reality of government, let alone supposed claims of sovereignty. Highly recommend this work as a jolt to thought.
Deficiencies in Protestant political thought today:. 1. No delineated political loci.2. Political method is not systematic.3. Politics and theology are not distinguished.

He was the unlikely hero, a self-professed mediocrity, that was a hard No to Wilsonian mania. He successfully unwound the war economy, put away vindictiveness (Debs was released), & was a congenial executive (the scandal was overblown). His was the self-effacement of a katechon.
@Qal_Qohelet Harding was individually pathetic, but as the last hurrah of the Ohio machine his story has some romance.

The tragedy is that the US entered so late, Wilson had become an insane idealist, France was hysterically bloodthirsty, & Russia had fallen to the Bolsheviks. Counter-factually, if the US never intervened, a stalemate would've likely bred Ostpolitik & a Socialist Germany.

American involvement in WW1 against the 2nd Reich was mostly justified. Germany was the great competitor in manufactures, threatened to control sea lanes & take LatAm satellites, & had a presence on Wall St (Kuhn&Loeb, a branch of the Warburgs). The Reich's biggest party was SDP.
